Snagged from debg.

Part the first: List 10 musical artists you like, in no specific order (do this before reading the questions below).

1.Barenaked Ladies
2.The Who
3.Dire Straits
4.Strawbs
5.Belle and Sebastian
6.Old 97's
7.Tom Paxton
8.Beatles
9.Beach Boys
10.Kinks

Part the second: the questions.

What was the first song you ever heard by 6?

"Murder or a Heart Attack." snurri and several other Buffistas had sung the praises of the band way back when we were on TT, so I went looking for mp3's to sample them. This was the first one I found, and I liked it so much I ordered the album from Amazon the same day.

What is your favorite song of 2?

"Sunrise"
You take away the breath I was keeping for sunrise
You appear and the morning looks drab in my eyes...

What is your favorite lyric of 5?

"Piazza, New York Catcher"
I love you, I've a drowning grip on your adoring face
I love you, my responsibility has found a place
Beside you and strong warnings in the guise of gentle words
Come wave upon me from the family wider net absurd
"You'll take care of her, I know it, you will do a better job"
Maybe, but not what she deserves.

How many times have you seen 4 live?

Three, all at the Capital Theatre in Passaic in the mid 70's. They were the ex's favorite band, and she was always more into going to shows than I was. (By comparison, I've only seen the Kinks once, although I did later see Ray solo.) They were all good shows, although the first time I saw them had the advantage of following the worst performance I've ever seen, by Bonnie Bramlett.

What is your favorite song by 7?

"My Favorite Spring," about a man recalling his baseball career.
The Cardinals said, "Young'un, we sure like your arm."
We believe you can make it. We'll send you down to the farm.
You need a little seasonin', play a little double A,
We'll give you a chance to show how much you want to play.

Is there any song by 3 that makes you sad?

"Romeo and Juliet"

What is your favorite lyric of 8?

Damn. How do you pick? I'm gonna say "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," but it could change at any moment.

What is your favorite song by 9?

"Wouldn't It Be Nice"

What is your favorite song of 1?

"If I Had $1,000,000"

How did you become a fan of 10?

In the summer of 1972 I took a road trip with my best friend Dennis, his pregnant wife Chris, and our friend Brian to (what was at the time) the world's southwesternmost Friendly's ice cream shop, located in the then almost brand new planned city of Columbia, MD. (The year before we'd been to the northeasternmost Friendly's (Lewiston, ME). It was a thing.) On the way back home, Dennis's VW Bus threw a connecting rod just outside of Philadelphia, and we wound up having to wait in the bus a few hours for my brother and Al to drive down and pick us up. Brian had bought a copy of the Kinks Kronikles in Columbia, so I passed the time reading the liner notes, which were copious and terrific. I really hadn't been much aware of the band, although I knew I'd heard "Lola" on the radio" Unfortunately, Brian was totally unwilling to loan me the album before he'd had a chance to listen to it, and I sort of forgot about it. Later, I happened to pick up a copy of The Rolling Stone Record Reviews, a compilation of reviews from the late sixties, and the reviews of Arthur and VGPS were so glowing that I made it a point to go buy some Kinks albums. I got hooked quickly.

(Note: the meme asked two questions about band #2 and none about band #8, so I changed the second instance of 2 to 8.)
