Google is by all accounts a lovely place to work, with lots of perks, including world class cuisine in their free cafeterias. The cafeterias are so good they were profiled on the food network. Now, to maintain all those lovely perks, Google has decided to
screw over 100 million users.

I am cranky and my arm hurts. I had blood drawn at lunchtime, and I knew as soon as the tech stuck the needle in that it was gonna hurt like hell. It was no mere pin prick. She must have used one of those gigantic #5XL horse needles with the hook on the end that my father always used to warn me about when I was a kid. It's gonna leave a mark; I know it.

Neddy Colletti continues to add new pieces to his collection of antique catchers, this time signing
Pat Borders (who will be 43 in May) to a minor league deal. The reports are that he'll be Crash Davis to the kid pitchers and catchers on The Dodgers' A team in Vero Beach as he trains to become a manager. Don't think, Meat, you can only hurt the ball club.

Yesterday was apparently a Mets media day down in NY, with various Mets folk appearing all day on WFAN. Trader Omar even went on Imus. One theme that seemed to keep popping up was the Jae Seo for Duaner Sanchez trade, most of it along "What the frell was Omar thinking about?" lines. Since Seo is coming to the Dodgers, all that talk just gladdens my Dodger-blue heart.

Former Dodger Guillermo Mota flunked his physical for Cleveland, so the rumored trade that would send cereal box star Coco Crisp from the Indians to the Sox is on hold. Rather than admit that Florida managed to fob off a broken player on them a couple months ago, the Sox are saying Mota didn't flunk so much as that he just didn't meet Cleveland's standards. Of course, that implies that Boston's healthy player standards are lower than Cleveland's.
Speaking of the Sox, Mike Carminati has a
nice rant about the last time the Sox had so much turmoil in the front office. Over at the NY Times, Murray Chass rants about
the current state of affairs on Yawkey Way.

Bob Timmerman has a couple of good pieces today at the Griddle, one on the passing of
the oldest Cubs fan in the world, and the other on
attempts by the Japanese to speed up their ball games (which are even slower than ours).
Meanwhile, the Disney-Pixar merger is much in the news, and Ken Arneson brings up a
potential implication for MLB.

Finally, yesterday the Cubs purchased the contract of Angel Pagan, a man whose name, at least, covers all the bases.
