late entry! dxk holiday mix: the hourglass

Jan 02, 2007 14:38

So I'm not exactly sure what inspired the mix title (because granted, none of this is very holiday-related), but I'll take a stab at it anyway: an hourglass represents the measurement of time, which is a (somewhat) common theme among these songs. Their moments in time - they've happened, they happen, they will happen - but eventually, the hourglass runs out. Still, it isn't an end, because somewhere on another plane of existance, DxK is alive and pulsing; maybe, somewhere, what they feel for each other can be measured on a whole other level that we can't even fathom - where emotion is more elemental than time. I guess what ties this all together is that it's a brand new year, and the events of 2006 are now in the past. But DxK is stamped into existance, and history repeats itself - after all, the design of an hourglass is meant for it to be able to turn over, renewed again and again.

You can listen to and download all the songs HERE. Please let me know if you have any trouble accessing them.

And then, a confession: two of these songs were already put up at dxkflavors, but I couldn't resist using them because I thought they fit so well. Overall, despite the poor cover art and the shortness of the mix, I still hope you enjoy the music. :)

is it any wonder?; keane

I always thought that I knew
I'd always have the right to
be living in the kingdom of the good and true and so on
but now I think I was wrong
and you were laughing along
and now I look a fool for thinking you were on

getting it wrong; sparklehorse

set your woods on fire
hide up in the spires
the flames kept dancing higher

they're playing our song
they're playing our song
they're getting it wrong

ophelia in the creek
caught up in the sticks
somethings can't be fixed

they're playing our song
they're playing our song
they're playing our song

my name is trouble; nightmare of you

well I've had this secret
and I feel it's time that you should know
when I'm in your arms it turns me on
but I've got a conscience too
and it says my heart's never in tune
with anything I do

so this is the last time that I'll hold your hand
I want to kiss you on the mouth and tell you
I'm your biggest fan
I'm your biggest fan

special; mew

you're special
you're like a rocket through me
ohh, you're special
you're a rocket through me
and I cannot this time

there's a taste that you can't shake
but you can't seem to let them go awry
I know you're special
you're a rocket to me
at this surprised
all the time

the space between; dave matthews band

but will I hold you again?
these fickle, fuddled words confuse me
like 'will it rain today?'
waste the hours with talking, talking
these twisted games we're playing

we're strange allies
with warring hearts
what wild-eyed beast you be
the space between
the wicked lies we tell
and hope to keep safe from the pain

we exchanged words; azure ray

we exchanged words
through smoke-filled mouths
and then we found our bodies
speaking loud
and our hearts pressed against the flesh
trading stories
of love's pain
doubt
and rivaling insecurities
when did we learn to speak without words?
and in tongues?
maybe we should just stop here

your hand in mine; explosions in the sky
[instrumental]

the new year; death cab for cutie

so everybody put your best suit or dress on
let's make believe that we are wealthy for just this once
lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn
as thirty dialogs bleed into one

I wish the world was flat like the old days
then I could travel just by folding a map
no more airplanes, or speed trains, or freeways
there'd be no distance that could hold us back.
