Character Name: Dr. Alex J Mercer aka ZEUS aka DX1118 aka BLACKLIGHT
Character Age: 3 weeks old. His body appears to be 29 and he has the memories of hundreds of people but his mental age is generally late 20s as well.
Fandom: [PROTOTYPE]
History link:
[PROTOTYPE] on wiki. I would strongly advise against looking at the [PROTOTYPE] wikia as it's full of false information and doesn't bother to cite any of its facts. If you need elaboration on anything I would be happy to provide it.
Age: This is a complicated one. Alex is 3 weeks old, but appears 29 physically, and thinks and acts appropriately like a 29 year old man.
Canon Point: After he ripped open the lid to Taggart's tank and reached in for his meaty, meaty brain. Mmmmm delicious.
Personality:
Being a virus that starts the game out as something of a blank slate, Alex's personality is still in development. His first "guise" and default personality of Dr. Alex J Mercer caused him to begin "life" as an angry and amoral character with little regard for those around him. He's still a mildly egocentric and self-serving "person," willing to do what he has to for his goals and needs. Alex retains Mercer's lack of concern for other people's welfare and generally doesn't think much of his treatment of humans- which is piss poor to say the least. He has a total disregard for what is considered socially acceptable and seems completely incapable of understanding how others around him might be affected by his actions when he isn't directly focused on them.
Still, in many ways Alex is a better person than his predecessor. He does feel generally bad for the citizens of Manhattan as the game goes on and even plans to save them from a nuclear blast with the help of Captain Cross. He cares about his "sister" Dana, someone the original Mercer did not reconnect with until he had needed her for something, and goes out of his way to save her life, even getting visibly upset when her life is in danger. While Alex doesn't seem to trust easily, he does come to ally himself with a few individuals and has the ability to grow attachments- if everyone around him didn't tend to end up a backstabbing jerkoff.
His temper is incredibly short and it doesn't take much to anger Alex. Fits of rage come easily to him and he's prone to flying off the handle at the slightest provocation. This largely has to do with the fact Alex typically has to deal with people who are less than reasonable, but even when confronted with basic situations his default reaction tends to be anger. If you manage to get on his good side then these little outbursts gradually decline, but Alex is far from perfect in this area. He has little control over his emotions and when they start to gravitate towards the negative he usually needs to find an outlet to vent them before he takes it out on some unfortunate soul.
Alex is extremely single-minded and seems to almost have trouble focusing on more than one goal at a time. He goes from point A to point B without letting anything distract him in the middle. If something big enough to distract him actually appears, it tends to become his primary goal and everything else is put on hold until it's resolved (example: revenge against GENTEK went to the bottom of the list when Dana's safety became priority number one after she was kidnapped.) He doesn't seem too capable of making his own plans and instead follows the advice of those around him (Dana, Cross, Ragland) to help him pursue his goals. Most of his own "plans" consist of knee-jerk reactions to situations and rarely have the consequences planned out (see: releasing Elizabeth Greene.) For all the deception going on around him, he seems to take most people at face-value unless they give him a reason to think otherwise, and then all bets are off.
Appearance:
[BLADE ON!] [LOOKING OMINOUS!] [BEING SORT OF NORMAL!] It's worth noting that Alex is a walking talking virus and is fully capable of changing his appearance on a whim. While this won't be applicable in the game until much later on, his height, weight, and facial features can all change without warning should he want to disguise himself. Alex also has a problem keeping his biomass/tentacles in check when he is angry, which causes swirls of the stuff to curl around his shoulders in a very noticeable fashion.
Powers/Abilities:
To start out with, Alex has superhuman strength [he can lift up entire helicopters without breaking a sweat], speed [he can run as fast as a car at least], the highest jump around [he can leap 5 stories in one bound], and regenerative powers that can sustain bullets to the head and even nuclear blasts. He can run up a sheer wall without any difficulty and can glide for short distances provided he doesn't hit any obstacles along the way.
Alex's most basic power is that of consumption and replication. What it boils down to is that any organic creature can be "eaten" by Alex and then replicated down to the last cell. It makes deceiving others a snap as he can simply turn into an ally and no one would be any wiser to it. Add the fact that the memories of whatever he consumes are added to his own and Alex is pretty much a flawless copy of whoever- or whatever- he consumed.
Since Alex's body can shift into all manner of designs, he has quite a few offensive and defensive abilities at his disposal:
-
CLAWS: like the name suggests, Alex can transform his hands into giant, razor sharp claws with the ability to pierce heavy armor. Besides the hack and slash range of attacks you would normally expect, Alex can also shoot the claws into the ground only to have them come up as giant spikes to impale his enemies.
-
BLADE: One of Alex's strongest abilities, he grows a double-ended blade from his elbow down. It's very sharp and highly durable, making slicing through people and vehicles alike a cinch. The blade can take out even larger enemies with a single swipe- very useful when you have a pack of giant hunters after you.
-
HAMMERFISTS: Alex's hands morph into giant club-like fists, as the name implies, each weighing approximately 1,000 lbs. Attacks dealt with these are slow, but incredibly powerful. Only a few fits have the ability to completely decimate an armored tank.
-
MUSCLE MASS: This coats Alex's arms in biomass, increasing his attack strength twice over. It's highly inaccurate, however.
-
WHIPFIST: Both arms can shoot out long lengths of biomass like projectiles to sweep enemies nearby or hit an enemy from far away. The blade at the end of the biomass also helps deal damage. Not so good against single enemies or larger ones. This ability also allows him to grab onto far away objects and drag himself to them- or them to him.
-
ARMOR: A full-body exoskeleton made of hardened biomass. It's bulletproof, up to .50 caliber bullets, and can take normal impacts like nobody's business.
-
SHIELD: Morphs one of his arms into a giant shield. These can stop heavy artillery without a problem, and bullets are not an issue.
- INFECTED-VISION: Alex is able to see who is infected with the virus and who isn't. Pretty self-explanatory. This only applies to the BLACKLIGHT and REDLIGHT viruses, along with any variations that may mutate from it.
All of Alex's abilities require he be in good health. If he somehow manages to get ill- say via parasite or anything equally unpleasant- he loses a good range of his powers. Alex also needs to keep well-fed, especially after he regenerates. It should also be noted that while he is not human his human body does need to perform some basic functions to continue working, like breathing and sleeping.
