Well, after watching Voyage of the Damned, I was inspired to get back on track with these little scribble reviews now that the holidays are over...
But before we start, I'm a bit sad I missed out on the past few weeks so: quick one line thoughts on those:
AoL/WWIII: The main plot isn't one of my faves, but this ep was absolutely wonderful when it came to characters and humor.
Dalek: Being the episode that really cemented my love for this show, all I can say was I loved it.
The Long Game: Not a particular fave, though this is possibly one of my fave episodes visually- and I still want Rose's shirt.
I'll be honest, though, and say that I really enjoy all of S1's episodes: the writing as a whole just works for me and while there are a few snags here and there, there's no episodes that I really dislike. Which brings me to Father's Day... an episode I found rather "meh" on the initial viewing but seems to get better each time I watch it.
Two things that I truly love about this episode is the general color scheme/feeling (like others have mentioned, it's very muted and washed out looking) and the musical theme for this episode (especially the part where the TARDIS materializes inside the church.)
Thoughts on the Characters this week:
Pete: On this viewing I noticed that Pete really reminds me of Rose. He's got the same talent for deducing and asking the right questions. (Note the part where he and the Doctor are at the window... or the fact that he figures out he should be dead)- and he also has this goofiness to him that I like. I also like him SOOO much better than AU!Pete... but that may be my slight bias against most of S2 talking(glad I'm doing this rewatch, really.) I love Rose pointing out the bottles of Vitex and the quote "He's never gonna be a world leader or anything..." Hmm... AU Pete... with his Vitex and being friends with the AU President (if I remember...) XD Ah, continuity... I love continuity. ha.
The Doctor AND Rose: "You're wish is my command, but be careful what you wish for." Oh, isn't that the truth. Their fight was cruel, Rose's smile when he comes back to save her is adorable, and it was interesting that in the process of saving her father, she killed the Doctor- also interesting that he couldn't take her father away from her again. hmm...
Honorable mention goes to Random Hit-and-Run Driver. Because he had to drive around corners with his arm over his eyes for 45 minutes XD
- A Few Random Thoughts and Quotes:
- "You and your boyfriend need a lift"
- *doctor glare of doom*
"Okay I'll tell him you're not my boyfriend"
--Yeah, because that's really what's bugging him...
- On the argument: Yea, doc... cause she really had time in that split second between you saying "Time Machine" and her running to thing "OMG! TIME MACHINE! DAD! SAVE! LET'S GO!"
- Ha- never noticed the song on the radio before "la la la...and deseerrrttt youuuu"
- First time I saw this I sat there thinking "Where the heck is the 'Watson come here' from?" For some reason I kept thinking Thomas Edison... ugh, Graham Bell... i knew that.
- Ahaha. That cell phone... my mother had one of those cell phones... I remember thinking her phone was so cool when I was little... now it's just funny *cracks up again*
- Is that Mickey's mom? Is Mickey calling that other kid "Jake?" Heh...
- Love how the Doctor thinks out loud once he gets in the church... also love how he just starts talking about time to Jackie and she's just like "wtf?"
- The look on Pete's face when Rose asks if it's her fault...
- Doctor basically going: Let me break this down for you in words you understand. Key. Touch. ZAP. 'kay?
- The eye-roll after Jackie asks "How old were you... twelve?!"
- and the way the story Jackie tells Rose as a little girl changes oh-so-slightly. And for the better, in a way (the driver stopped, someone held Pete's hand, etc)
Happy New Years, Everyone! =)
