He’s a bit… selfish, yeah, but he’s not evil. I really don’t think he meant to hurt anyone. I even bet if the Doctor had bothered to sit him down for five minutes to explain the rules of time travel, he never would’ve tried to seek out a profit like he did.
In general I agree. Adam is not malicious, and I think he honestly didn't understand that what he was doing could cause serious problems. The initial "OMG I'm in SPACE!" freak-out doesn't necessarily mean that he sucks for good: witness Mickey's behavior in Rose compared to what he later became. Adam eventually starts to get bolder and exhibit a bit of that adaptability that is critical to traveling with the Doctor. On the other hand, I think he remains an example of "Companion: YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG." His concerns always revolve around himself. Had he received a proper orientation he might not have tried to make a profit like this, but he would have eventually tried something else equally selfish if marginally less boneheaded.
The Doctor says he only takes the best. Adam doesn't have to be a monster, a complete coward, or an imbecile (none of which he is) to fall short of such a high standard (which he does).
I think it’s a villain thing, spelling out words. Builds up the anticipation. Or something?
Villain: You think you can defeat me? You, Doctor, are bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. *end Gwen Stefani moment*
