That's never going to work, is it?: AoL & WWIII (belated)
This is late. I'm truly sorry. I was planning on sneaking in a post just under the wire on Tuesday, but Tuesday turned out to be a bit of a day from hell and posting didn't happen. However, I'd already rewatched, so I'm going to claim the soapbox anyway. You can feel free to ignore, but there are a few things I can't resist throwing out there.
-Lots of people dislike these episodes, but I big to differ. Yes, the fart jokes get old fast. Ignore it as best you can and enjoy all that is wonderful here! They're really funny episodes, but they're also strong on the character development for both our fave duo and the recurring characters.
-Look at the extras in the party at the Tyler flat. What a great variety of people! They've got asian folks, a goth, old people, annoying kids...it seems Jackie shares Rose's talent for making all sorts of friends.
-Mickey smelling his shoes. He's such a GUY. But he's been doing a lot of research, found out some fairly good information...Rose doesn't just like him for his looks.
-Look at Jackie's face when she sees the TARDIS materialize. Just for a moment, she's full of wonder. She hears the sound of the universe's pulse, sees the impossible bursting forth into the real world. It's beautiful. Her wonder is only there for a minute before being totally eclipsed by concerned for her daughter's safety, but it's a side of the ever-practical Jackie that hardly ever comes through.
-You know this show isn't set in the USA because here if the police were gathered somewhere and the black guy starts running off (like when they took in the Doctor and Rose) they would have shot him.
-Tosh: do you REALLY need heels that tall to dissect pig aliens?
-am I the only one who can't see the faux alien without thinking "Pigs....In....SPAAAAACE!"
-I quite like the plot of the aliens faking an alien crash in order to gather and murder all the experts in extraterrestrials. Nice job of throwing some SF cliches in a blender with some randomness and coming up with a novel plot.
--The Doctor can't even close the doors in the enemy's face without delivering a history lecture. Geek!
-How cute is the Doctor's expression of glee when he figures out Raxacorricofallapatorious? Cute as that planet's name is long. (I think one test of being a true Doctor Who fan is whether you can pronounce Raxacorricofallapatorious.)
-The Slitheen prove that they too are dorks with the red telephone!
-The expression on Rose's face when the Doctor is describing the plasma storm to her is fascinating. It's like he's having phone sex with her! Nine was playing (and talking) dirty by bringing that description into their argument about whether he was coming for tea. He's jealous of anyone who usurps too much of Rose's attention, even her mother.
-I love how the Doctor has adjusted his estimation of Mickey. Mickey, for his part, is smart enough to know where his limits are. Mickey grows more than just about anybody in the course of the series.
