1. Although this is technically the third episode with Ten and Rose together, it's the first where neither of them spend a significant portion of time unconscious. So: what did you think of the way they behaved in this episode? Cute first date, or obnoxiously flirty?
Definitely in the cute first date camp. Their being overly wrapped up in each other sets up the coming separation quite well. However, I found it adorable to watch.
2. Werewolves and monks and Queen Victoria, oh my! Did you like the plot of this episode? Queen Victoria is also the second historical figure we've now seen in New Who. Did you think she was portrayed respectfully? Do you like episodes with historical figures?
This is one of my favourite episodes. I love most historical figure episodes - it's awesome how they exploit and interpret unexplained mysteries. I thought Queen Victoria was done very well; the actress was very good. I find the episode appropriately spooky as well. The werewolf in human form is chilling, as were the references to Bad Wolf.
Also, the ninja monks? Best opening sequence EVER.
3. In the end, Queen Victoria banishes both of them and establishes the Torchwood Institute. Do you think Queen Victoria's reaction was appropriate, or a bit melodramatic? Were the Doctor and Rose in the wrong, or was Queen Victoria unappreciative towards people who'd just saved her life? Knowing what becomes of Torchwood later in this series, what do you think its creation here suggests?
I think it was undeserved but understandable. The Doctor and Rose were acting slightly insensitive, which didn't seat well with Queen Victoria. I don't think that warranted banishment, or making the Doctor Undersirable Number One at Torchwood. The lesson they should have learned was not to make light of serious situations... the bodycount wasn't low. OTOH, when you save the universe for a living, if you can't laugh things off, it probably starts to get to you after awhile. So... IDK!
