Apologies for being so late with the post today! Both mods were out most of the day, but it's before midnight in my timezone, so it still counts as being on time imo!

Hmm. I might be in the minority here, but I LOVE everything about this episode.

I love the bit at the beginning where we actually see Nine pretty darn happy (Off we go, into time! And space! Woooot, Team Tardis 4Eva!!!!!)

I love the development of the Doctor/Jack relationship, including the bit where the Doctor finds the Macro Kinetic Waveform Whatchamacallit, and they're both oohing and ahhing over it, but then the Doctor lets Jack cart it off, like an older kid being nice to the younger by yielding up the really cool toy.

I really love all the bits with Blon. I think the dialog is pretty clever, and I'm always in favor of episodes where the bad guy is more than just a wooden villian. Blon's not a good person by any stretch of the imagination, but they provided enough glimpses into her life to allow for some depth.

And of course, my shipper heart loves the Doctor's jealousy. Oh, and I think they used the musical score really effectively in this episode.

My thoughts about Rose and Mickey... Their relationship is in a pretty unusual place. I mean, Rose ran off, but geez, time machine. I think it's fair to assume that she didn't expect to be gone for a whole year. Also, if Ross from Friends gets a laminated list of celebrities he can sleep with, I think everybody else gets an automatic exemption when offered a chance to see all of time and space. (Especially at nineteen.) So they are both left in a very awkward mostly-friendship/maybe-more place. They should have talked it over, but I bet Rose felt guilty as hell and didn't really want to talk, and Mickey probably avoided the subject like the plague because he knew what she would choose.

I always figured that Rose started thinking about the Doctor in a more romantic sense after The Doctor Dances, and that maybe she expected something to happen after that, but it didn't. Maybe she flirted and got shot down, or maybe he just backed way off. (Note: I do NOT think that he wasn't head-over-heels for her; I just think he might have freaked out a bit.) Something about the way she says, "it's not any of his business," when talking to Mickey makes me think that maybe she's making a little bit of a statement when she walks off with him. (Something along the lines of, "well, if you don't want me, and Jack has been permanently scared off, and you scowl and mock every other male creature who comes anywhere near me, then how about I head off into the night with my sort of ex-boyfriend, see ya, don't wait up!) It's immature, but I don't mind the occasional bout of immaturity from her at this point -- it just allows for character growth later on. And for all those who bemoan poor, misused Mickey, pffffffft. Dude showed up with money for a hotel when he was seeing someone else. That is not cool.
