Rose is the first one I watched, so from that PoV it makes it hard for me to objectively say if it's a good intro. For me it was perfect and I was in love about ten minutes in (the precise moment being "Nice to meet you, Rose, now run for your life!"). It also feels pretty quintessentially Doctor Who, or at least, quintessentially Rusty era - it's funny and cheesy and the CGI isn't great and the plot is kinda hilarious. But it's also something more: you can see Rose's mundane life and how much she's loving this adventure. You can see how broken the Doctor is. There's brief talk about the Time War. You've got "that's who I am, Rose Tyler". And then big, alien moments like the reveal of the TARDIS against little moments that make it real ("lots of planets have a north!"). It's all I love about this show.

I think that sort of covers the first three tbh. XD

Rose refusing the Doctor always felt very natural to me. Mickey was just enough of a reminder of RL to pull her back down to Earth at that crucial moment and make the ~sensible~ decision. I guess fortunately the Doctor could see how disappointed she was.
