Ok I know that it has been a while since I did a somewhat real update, so here goes.
In the last 2 weeks of work, I closed 8 days of the 10 days of working. That was not fun. I was training someone to close, and had already said that I could cover some Sunday closes before the training came up. I was wiped out for those two weeks, but I think that I am caught up finally.
All of the Serenity comics came out, and they were really good. They do a good job of filling in the 6 months between the show and the movie. Speaking of the movie, yesterday I heard the worst news ever. THERE WILL BE NO MIDNIGHT SHOWING OF SERENITY!!!!!!!!!!!! All of the planning on going to a midnight premiere, all of the excitement about the release of the movie, and here it comes down to the crunch time, and there is no midnight showing. The serenitycampout website that we had been looking at was made a year ago. They didn't even check to see if there would be a midnight showing. They just assumed that there would be. So now, I find myself in a bad mood about this fact, but I will have to deal. I guess that the browncoat group will just have a big group of people go to the movie on Friday night but we will have to wait for movie times to be released for that.
I never made my final Dragon*Con entries, because I pretty much forgot what was done each day. Here is the link to all of the pictures.
www.dwrd.net/dragoncon and Joe's pictures at
www.dwrd.net/dragonconjoe. Speaking of D*C, I have been inspired and have already started making one of my costumes for next year that I will also be able to use for Halloween. I am making a Plo Koon costume. Unless you are a Star Wars fan, you probably have no idea who that is, so here is a picture.
I have already started putting the costume together, in that I have bought the material to make the tunics, tabbards and obi, recruited sewing help from
ravnclawprefect and belt/boot/consulting help from
jediagent. I ordered my light saber which should be delivered today. Last night I did an inital dying of fabric, but it is kinda splotchy so I am going to have to cut it into the pieces that I need for each garment, and then re-dye them to get them a uniform color. For note, one bottle of dye will not work for 9 yards of fabric. I am really excited about making this. If you would have told me 2 months ago that I would have been doing this, I think that I would have called you crazy, but here it is, I have been to more fabric stores in the past few days then I have anywhere else. Who knows? I didn't realize all of the little parts that are involved in doing an accurate costume, but it is kind of neat. Who knew that the food capsules are Staedtler Liquid Roller Ball pen caps with a hemisphere added into the bottom of it then painted.
One other pretty cool thing is that my mom is sending me her airbrush. It will be very useful for working on costumes, and who doesn't want to have an airbrush around the house? My lightsaber will be delivered today, so I will put up pictures of it tonight. It is like Christmas waiting for this thing.
