Owen had never understood Tosh’s aversion to birthdays. He’d always loved his own. Some kind of party, some drinking, and much that he SHOULD apologize for in the morning. This year was different. It was his first birthday after Diane. After The Rift. After forgetting who he was as a person, and letting his heart rule his head. He sat staring out of the picture window of his apartment. He’d slunk off early, after being unusually snippy at work all day, after Jack asked him kindly to remove whatever was stuck in his ass, or take his ass home. Looking out over the view of Cardiff would sometimes sooth his soul. Other times it would make him exponentially more upset. Today it was doing the latter.

Jack had spent the better part of the day wandering around Cardiff, making it a point not to be noticed. He’d went to pubs he’d never been in before to eat, window shopped stores he’d never shop at, just so he’d be away from the normal beaten path where they might’ve seen him. He’d thought long and hard about how to bring himself back to his team. He knew he’d been gone a few months, but only knew bits of what had happened with them during his absence. He knew he’d have to face Ianto first. That wasn’t anything he’d even thought about. He’d left him hanging more than anyone else on the team, and felt he deserved his time to say his piece. No matter how much of a verbal beating he’d take for it. So he waited.
