June Challenge: The "Anywhere on Earth (but London)" Challenge.
Anywhere on Earth (but London).
For anyone who has ever wanted to see the Doctor and his companion in Ancient Greece, in Pompeii when Mount Vesuvius erupts, in Ancient Egypt consorting with Cleopatra, in a haunted Scottish castle or the middle of the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney, this is the challenge for you. Britain is only a small part of the potential Whovian world, and so your challenge for the month of June is "Anywhere on Earth (but London)". Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to expand with stories and artwork the world of Whovian canon, to cast the Doctor and companion of your choice in adventures in far-flung locations across the globe. To aid you in your quest for travel and excitement, we have gathered together a list of locations, from the modern (Sydney, Australia) to the ancient (Valley of the Kings, Egypt) and everything in between.
All you need to do to participate is to claim a location (or two, if you're feeling brave) from the list below and compose a story or artwork around it. It's not necessary to only claim places you know well, or that you yourself have visited - that's what Google images is for, after all, and the rest of the internet, vast font of information that it is. We only ask two things of you: (1) That the location(s) you choose are the focus of your composition, otherwise there's really no point; and (2) That the main action of your composition takes place somewhere other than canon London, Wales or Scotland.
Please note: Each location may be claimed only once. You can only claim up to two locations at a time, but you may include as many different locations as you like. (Round-the-world globe-trotting epics are fun too, natch. As are different time periods in history, or stories set in the future, if you're feeling imaginative.)
Stories and artwork of any genre, style, length and rating are accepted. Any Doctor, any companion, and any combinations thereof are all welcome. Both members and non-members may participate. Since non-members do not have posting access, once you've finished your story or artwork you can either leave a link in this post, or email us at starkiller [at] thebattlefields [dot] org and rian219 [at] livejournal [dot] com, and we will post a link back to your story in the community. Members can of course post their work at any time according to the community posting guidelines.
This challenge will be open for claiming and posting until the 30th June. If you finish your story in record time, and would like to come back and claim another unclaimed location after your first story is posted, you're welcome to do so. On the other hand, if you are running a bit behind schedule, please do not hesitate to contact us for an extension. Please do not claim a location if you do not intend to fulfil your claim.
