The book that I took with me on my trip to Illinois was Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins. Amazing book. I finished off the book as I was flying back home, and I was profoundly stunned at the power and insights gained as he dropped the seven veils. The book is very entertaining, with great poetic prose and it is a fun story, but ultimately it is a steady percolation of revelation, drips of freshly brewed caffeine to awaken us from the somnolence that we are prone to fall in to. At the end of the book, the final thesis that he spells out as the seven veils were like a coffee enema.
It was neat, many of the points that he's made I've either made myself or have experienced through various times of my life, but to have it so eloquently spelled out was a real joy. It is still sitting on my desk as I've picked up and re-read the ending a few times, I've not quite wanted to move to the next book.
