I agree with nightbulbs when she says there has never been enough Tom fic. It's really hard to come by, and I still can't figure out why; Matthew did such a great job with him.

Tom's the next-best-thing for a die-hard Lucas fan such as myself, so I hope there will be more of him.

You are both so right! I went on fanfic.net after nightbulbs said that and the only Ruth/Tom fic is mine! (?) Then again, anyone who doesn't fic ruth/harry is pretty unpopular on spooks ff.net as I often discover. That's why I like lj better.

Oh, yes, I know what you mean! I remember a poster who commented on the first couple of chapters of my Lucas/OC fic "A Voice in the Dark" on ff.net when she assumed Harry might be romantically interested in my OC because of his innocuously describing her as a lovely young woman.

Being a Ruth/Harry shipper, she considered the mere thought of such an interest a capital crime. lol Of course, the pairing she dreaded couldn't be further from my plans.

I got negative reviews just because I had Ruth dump Harry/because I had Ruth go off with a guy I invented in an Au once. Or there was the time I wrote Elena coming to talk to Ruth and then Ruth quit the service... good times ;)

Believe it or not, I used to be a hardcore Harry/Ruth shipper and then I got kinda annoyed on the forums because every time I tried to discuss other characters, the threads would get hijacked to discuss Harry/Ruth yet again and post 8.1 I kinda disliked Harry. By s9 I outright hated him. Still not sure what I'm going to do with Harry in this au.

It was pretty much the best when I discovered spooky_doings and fics that were actually good ;)

I don't want to consider post 8.8 Ruth/Harry. I still liked Harry in S8, he was just completely lost imo, but S9 and S10 progressively ruined him. That's not our Harry. Mind you, that's not our Ruth either, the way she behaved in some S10 scenes was also un-Ruthlike, which proves those writers couldn't write anyone without making them OOC.

Idk about the hardcore shippers. It's like they forgot the show wasn't all about the ship. Though I noticed that in every shippy subfandom of every fandom.

This be true. I think it is especially bad in Spooks though. idk if that's just coz I ficc'd more in it though!

No, there are some pretty fucked up subfandoms everywhere, you just don't know it until you've found out about them. Hardcore fans totally put me off a few of my Once Upon a Time ships. Not that I care so much about that show, but shipping was fun and now I think I hate a character mostly because of the fandom forbidding me to dislike her. So I mildly disliked her and now I can't stand her at all, haha. I've been staying away from all fandoms for a while because of that, tbh. I hate how people always want to make fanon canon and force their views on everyone. Meh.

Fair enough- I think it's just I've never been involved enough elsewhere except doc who and that has literally so many ships that it is a little harder to get involved in shipping wars :)
