So this week,
I won a taco eating contest by eating 26 50-cent tacos at the Whig, cleared out about 12 acres of invasive species out of my chosen national park, caught birds in mist nets and weighed, measured, examined and banded them, listened to terrible karaoke, watched some awesome movies, made preliminary arrangements to rent a hybrid for next

I like the Boondock Saints cartoon, I don't think I've ever seen the movie. I recently saw "Get Smart" and "Wanted" in theatres. Neither were especially believable, but "Get Smart" was fun and cute and "Wanted" was... over the top. It was based on a comic book, which I didn't know when I went in to see it, so I was expecting something less... um... over the top. Hehe!
Re: mist netting ... yeah... We didn't mist-net for like a week and I cut my nails without thinking... It makes it so much harder to get the birds out! And next week we're going to mist-net like 3 days and my nails are still short... But! The plastic toothpick that comes on swiss army knives is sometimes helpful for hooking net and moving it around. Also... we don't deal with cardinals, but some grosbeaks are in the cardinalidae family and YES! OH MAN! they clamp down and grind! Owowowow! So painful. The sort-of trick is to try and grab them from behind with two fingers around the neck so you can try and hold their head away from the rest of you... but it doesn't always work.
I'm glad to read you sounding so upbeat! :)

my nails are always short...
i've never new that there was a boondock saints cartoon, but the movie was highly suggested to me as something to watch a few years ago, and now i can take it off the list.
i don't know anything about this "wanted" movie, but i'd rather like to see the "get smart" movie, since i vaguely remember the TV show... enough to know that i shouldn't be expecting something entirely believable.
most of the time, i'm not down at all. i am often overly preoccupied with reexamining the past, however, rather than doing new things; i crawl into my cacoon now and then and work on how to be a better butterlfy. sometimes, however, i realize that the best way to be a butterfly is to Be a butterfly, rather than spending my days in my webby sanctum. i am feeling slightly more optimistic, though, and it is a direct result of being sucessful in my new job of leading (which i had not been sure i was ready for). In sum, life going well = good mental state.
