conflicted, angsty crosspost
i am seriously bothered by the fact that although i had no federal money withheld, the federal government wants to give me money back. This fucking "economic stimulus" idea pisses me off. it takes money that could be used for good purposes by the government and gives it to me, in hopes that i'll go on a spending spree to "stimulate" the one sector of our economy that is already the fastest growing economic sector: the service industry. i mean if giving me a check for $300 would somehow help to create long-term, well paying jobs, i'd happily spend the money with a clear conscience, but right now, i know i'm stealing. rather i'm taking money that was given to the government in good faith that it would be well-spent on a utilitarian purpose, instead, the government gives money to me. i haven't mailed in my tax forms because i'm conflicted; should i mail in my taxes as i should, and take something that i believe i shouldn't be receiving or should i just not file and make the government keep its damn money?
