i just saw coach carter last night. it was long as hell, but it was good. it was just like the mighty ducks, but all grown up and in a shittier neighborhood. a new coach takes the challenge of coaching kids who don't respect him, but they end up loving him.
the movie was really about assimilation. all the parents and players were pissed at coach carter when he cancelled those games because their grades sucked because they thought that basketball was the only way to assimilate these kids into american society, as entertainers. coach carter taught them they needed to be assimilated into society by example as contributing members of society.
i hated seeing kids walk in with their matching letterman's jackets on that said basketball on them. it reminded me of when the stevenson swim team saw swimfan in their speedos... fags.
