Grand Haven Like Burning

Jul 13, 2003 04:05

I did a lot of driving around today, and found out that I am bored when I drive. I often find myself swerving across the road to the music I'm listening to. Good thing I've been listening to more mello music recently or I could be dead right now.

I was bored around 3:00am and decided to take a walk, as I do from time to time. My walk took me all over the place, as per usual, but tonight something interesting actually happened.

I was Wandering toward downtown. As I was crossing the intersection of Clinton and 2nd I noticed a smell in the air. It reminded me of burning. This struck me as odd, as our city smells like a lot of things, but burning has not been one of them as long as I've been here.

I looked to my right to find the sky illuminated and full of smoke. Upon further inspection I found that the building that was being renovated, or whatever, had caught fire.

At the site, the smoldering building quickly lost my interest, as I looked around to find the streets full of people. I mean there had to have been 50 people milling about. Some with very distraught looks on their faces.

One thought kept me standing there for something like 10 minutes. One thought caused me to fail to notice the warmth anymore.

"I am somewhat ashamed of this town. There has to be 50 people here, and not one bag of marshmallows."
