Today I decided I was in the mood for Salmon grilled on cedar planks. I opened a package of planks, started soaking them and carried on with my day with the goal of a lovely dinner in mind. Dinner was indeed quite nice … however its preparation was not so.
I stepped out onto our deck to take the cover off the grill and nearly got blown over by a gust of wind. While the wind speeds were only between 9 and 11 miles per hour; the area between our building and the next where my deck is becomes a wind tunnel and I personally think the speed picks up by 5 or more miles per hour. Once I made it to the grill, uncovered it and subsequently ran after my grill cover that was blowing away I was ready to preheat the sucker. This should have taken no time at all but instead took longer than I expected dinner to take. When it was finally done I put the planks on, expecting them to start smoking within 5 minutes … that did not happen. Eventually they were ready, I cooked and we ate. And it was good.
However I have decided I will not be grilling in the middle of winter when the wind is blowing anymore. I just don’t enjoy the cold enough.
