while perusing my usual science feeds online, I came across this very interesting article, about one of the most fascinating animals to ever walk this earth, Smilodon fatalis, indicating that the large sabertooth cat was likely a social hunter, like modern day lions.
they come to this conclusion based in behavioral studies conducted n the savanna of Africa where they played audio feedback of distressed prey animals and waited to see who showed up for the easy meal.
spotted hyena and lion accounted for 84% of the animals who responded to the calls, a number 60 times higher than population density in the region would indicate.
now drawing a direct line, dire wolves and Smilodon fatalis make up roughly 84% of the carnivores found in the La Brea tar pits, indicating that both of these species where social hunters.

now just sit back and try not to imagine not one but maybe 4 Smilodons stalking you through the woods...
