So today is my day off and I intend to spend it getting some costume-type things together. And I'm also going through my nail polish shades to get some together as well as do an Amy makeup test. I thought I'd offer forth some reference bits and ideas for Amy's nail shades and whatnot to the community, so here you go!
[EDIT] Now including Space Florida in the list! I knew I forgot one. :)
The Eleventh Hour
Bright, cherry red.
I've decided to use one of two shades for this one, only changing it up because one covers better than the other. Currently I have OPI's And a Cherry on Top which seems a bit thinner and Sally Hansen's Cherry Red which has fantastic coverage, especially after two coats.
The Beast Below
Darker red; brownish.
I haven't tested out a shade for this one yet, but I found one that looks pretty close. Sally Hansen's Red Zin.
Victory of the Daleks
I haven't picked a shade for this yet, but it looks very similar to the Beast Below. A darker red-brown, maybe?
the Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone
Dusty lilac-ish! My pick for this is OPI's Metro Chic (which I wear like it's going out of style), and I also found that Sally Hansen's Commander in Chic is a very close substitute. I haven't tried it out to see if the shades match - it might be a touch darker - but it's very close in comparison.
cloudysky recommends Illamasqua in Velocity for this one and
starfromihj recommends Ulta in Lavendering, also!
Vampires of Venice
Pale purple/lilac! I haven't picked a shade for this one yet, but it's pretty!
Amy's Choice
On the TARDIS she's got a lighter shade of purple/lilac going again, and in the dream there's actually no polish! But again, yet to pick a shade.
The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood
I had a hard time finding a close up reference picture of this one, but again it looks purple. Either a pale purple or a dustier shade - suggestions are welcome!
[EDIT]
cloudysky pointed out that in some other pictures, her polish seems to be a reddish shade! Here are some pics to prove, courtesy of her!
Hmm!
Vincent and the Doctor
Again with the pale purple!
the Lodger
This one looks like a bluish more than a purple. It also seems to look a bit different in other shots depending on the light, but this was the best one I could find to show it close up. Again, have yet to pick a shade!
wicked0witch commented back with this picture where the polish is shown in better light! I have yet to find a shade that goes for this. :)
red_and_gray recommends China Glaze's shade Shower Together for this one!
the Pandorica Opens/the Big Bang
Orange! I've been using Sally Hansen's Crushed for now, but it's a bit bright, maybe?
wicked0witch was a darling and suggested OPI's Caliente Coral, which I picked up during an outing and I have yet to try it but it looks gorgeous!
Space Florida! At first I wasn't sure but this pic makes it look reddish if you look at her right hand, the way it is on the nails. I thought blue at first, but this screenshot made me change my mind. :)
And back to bright red with her wedding dress!
(all screencaps are from
the Medusa Cascade)
As far as Amy's makeup goes, it tends to be more subtle/natural (with the exception of her kissogram, which I haven't looked into at all!) but since I love makeup, I thought it'd be fun to try and find shades that worked with it.
I've started using Too Faced's
Natural Eye palette because it gives some very subtle hues to work with. There are plenty of other options out there that accomplish this, but this is the one I've found that I like the most. It's great eye shadow and has a really pretty effect!
As far as lip gloss/lip shades go, I'm finding that lip stains seem to give a very good, natural effect depending on the colour you go with. Everyone has a different shade that suits them and I have yet to find the perfect one for me, but they're a lot of fun. Plus, they're lightweight and tend to last a good while!
And that's how I've spent my morning off so far. If anyone has any suggestions/etc. for all this, by all means don't hesitate to tell me. These are just my picks and I know some of you may have different choices - but that's what makes all this interesting!
