I Can Has Tardiz Key? YESSH!!

as some of you may be aware, for the longest time i've had my heart set on getting my paws on a 'Trekker' style Tardis key (like the one used in the TVM) to complete my Eighth Doctor costumes. well, today, Ceiling Cat (with some help from the postal carrier) answered my prayers - behold! an original 'Trekker' Tardis key in mint-ish condition of my very own delivered to my postal stop...

this acquisition came, not unexpectedly, through Ebay (my most sincere thanks to 'Adam Sterczala' whose suggestion of Ebay search methodology made this find possible). it seems that this key had sat in the seller's desk drawer new and unused (in the original box!) for the better part of 20 years.

i thought it interesting to compare the new key to the other 2 i have - the 'Trekker' key is in the middle with the Utopia Base version of the key on the left and the current BBC licensed key on the right. (grid is 1/4" scale)

having now acquired the key, i would never endanger it by taking it to a convention as part of a costume - if it were lost, i may never find another one. so, the next step for me, being who i am, is to pour a mold of this puppy and take the castings to conventions while the original remains safe at home. during this process, i am tempted to correct the few light scratches and the jump-ring damage/scarring at the top, but such surface defects can be seen as part of the TVM key, so i'm undecided...

speaking of the jump-ring, for those authenticity nuts (you know who you are-) it is made of 16 gauge silver wire with an interior diameter of 5mm.

i'd also like to thank sal_the_ref for providing measurements which allowed me to authenticate my key.
