This costume is nothing in comparison to the last one that was posted from
CONvergence, but I'm including where I got some of the stuff, so it might be helpful for someone. :-)
(thanks to
Moments Shared for the photo with the fun green-screen bonus...)
It's a little Electra-complex-like that I'm dressed as River and my hubby as Rory - but they were the characters that we wanted to play. At one point we found our Amy and that was more fun, and of course there were a number of Doctors...
River:
Wig:
http://www.hairwigharlem.com/beshe-synthetic-lace-front-wig-lw-mini.html (in blonde) This wig is really quite good, and had a number of people fooled/confused that it might be my real hair. Given that my normal hair is short and a combination of dark brown and pink, I feel like that's quite a testimonial!
Coat:
http://www.prana.com/parfait-jacket-1.html (in white, natch)
Pants: grey stretch pants we had lying around the house; I used masking tape and "ebony" fabric paint to paint the stripes down the sides cleanly
Anina-style belt: brown pleather, which I cut to size, hole-punched using a hand hole-puncher, and used brass brads instead of the brass button studs - saved a lot of money that way and it looked reasonably good (and functioned!)
Lower belt: thrift store find, $3
Brown belt pouches:
http://www.amazon.com/EMPIRE-Brown-Leather-Pouch-Sprint/dp/B0051WYCGU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339175441&sr=8-1 (big enough to hold my iPhone in one, some hallucinogenic lipstick and a pen in the other)
Leg holster: more of the brown pleather, hand/machine sewn to fit my leg and the gun
Boots:
http://www.aerosoles.com/eng/product/button_pink/button-pi - I acknowledge riding boots would be more accurate, but I thought I'd reuse these and they're close enough
Gun: I followed inspiration & reference shots from
here and
here. Using those, I modified a
Nerf Strike Nite Finder, so:
Considering that I've never modded a gun and most of what I did, I did with cardboard and hot glue, I was really, really happy with how it worked out. CONvergence's weapons policy means that I don't have any awesome photos of me "shooting" anyone with it, though.
Inside my right boot you can see the top of my TARDIS journal - I'll have to add a photo of it later. :-)
Rory:
Eye drive: Yes, we know this was from a different episode. But my husband had just had eye surgery so he actually needed to wear an eye patch... friends of ours made it for him out of Sculpey, and we used surgical tape underneath to tape it in place.
Armor: Oh so costumey, but it looked good:
this Roman "Chest Cover" (he got it from Ebay where it was even cheaper)
Kilt: Conveniently I had a kilt of just the right color from
Alt.Kilt. (Also conveniently, my husband is skinny enough to wear my skirts...)
Cloak: Another item that we already had - but we've had it for so long I can't tell you when we picked it up.
Sandals: Reasonably decent costume sandals:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00193ZNLS/ref=cm_sw_em_r_am_ip_am_us?ie=UTF8Add a couple of belts we picked up at a thrift store; he also was carrying a gladius for a while.
We had a great time. Thanks to everyone I ran into, sorry for the lack of awesome group photos. And thanks to the people on this community for this excellent cosplay resource! Next year CONvergence should be even more full of Dr. Who excellence, since the theme is British Invasion. See you there?
