DIY: River's pen necklace from "Day of the Moon"

I wanted to share a somewhat random tutorial I stumbled across that would serve the purpose of making River's pen necklace from her outfit at the beginning of "Day of the Moon".
I've spent about a year trying to gather various bits of this costume. The pen necklace was one of the last things I was going to tackle because it really just looked like it would require some cord, a pen, and some gold spray paint.
Today, I found this DIY tutorial on how to make Joan's gold pen necklace from Mad Men. I thought that this would also serve the purpose of making such a necklace for this River cosplay. I hope someone finds this helpful!
