Questions about Cosplaysky

I plan on cosplaying the Tenth Doctor for Chicago TARDIS in November. I'm looking at Cosplaysky's version of the suit; I like the price and I need it to be tailored. So I was wondering if anyone here can vouch for the quality/accuracy? I've heard some pretty good things, but I want to make sure before I buy it. And you guys are the experts ( Read more... )

As an owner of a Ricks coat and a person who has a swatch of the real coat fabric, I have to respectfully disagree. Short of being a different blend of colors and weave, the Malabar Steve uses is just about as dead on as anybody will ever find without tracking down the original fabric. The Malabar fibers are all one color as opposed to the original's blend of dark brown and gold fibers, but the overall read of the color turns out nearly identical in most lighting conditions. I attribute most of the difference in texture between the two to the fact that the original fabric had been washed and dried and the fibers have curled up a bit. It doesn't have a grain to it like the Malabar, but I have yet to see any other microsuedes without a grain. In short, the original coat fabric is unlike anything I've ever seen before.

As far as the price goes, yes it's a pretty big investment and one that I wouldn't expect most people to make, but the quality of the tailoring and materials speaks for itself. It's not only an incredibly screen accurate costume piece, it's also the single most well-crafted item of clothing I own.

OK. You're most likely right--the price just wigs me out. And I think it in NO way has to be that high, so it bothers me.

A BIG chunk of that is materials cost. The stuff isn't cheap. What's left doesn't even rival the premium charged by lots of designer labels like Belstaff. Steve's coat is still less than half the price of the Belstaff Sherlock coat. It's all relative.
