More melodramatic poetry! Just what everybody wants to read! *snort*

One Chance

A tall man dressed in black,
top hat perched firmly,
stands before me on the misty track.
Does he not see me?

A glint catches my eye
And I look to see what he holds.
Hard steel, cold as a lie.
The shimmer disappears back into dark folds.

Slowly and with power,
he steps forward to speak,
solid as a great marble tower.
Why is it me he seems to seek?

"You've been found to be free."
His voice is strong and deep
as he speaks his mysterious words to me.
A cliff face before me, should I leap?

A concept that is new
to me is presented with a frown.
Freedom has only truly been known by few,
none in my small town.

How can I trust this man
with danger in his grasp?
He brings something that I can
only make myself pass.

Tell me this, dear friend,
is there such liberty?
Mistakes one cannot mend
can be forgotten without severity?

I would taste this feeling,
if only for the smallest moment of time.
Then, I could just stare at the ceiling,
spend hours playing with rhyme.

But the tower is called to
a building by way of distraction.
My freedom leaves and with it you,
by some gruesome distraction.

Liberty, light and relief from sorrow
flee my mind, leaving only the dark.
You'll find it without me tomorrow.
Without intention or knowing, you've left your mark.

Hidden While Drowning

In a churning ocean all is lost.
A light from a boat is searching.
Does she see what it will cost?
Seasickness takes her; her body lurching.

Without a life raft or a boat,
he leaves the girl to feel.
Without forethinking, her feelings she must tote
while time lets her mind heal.

He's nowhere in sight,
but she still sees him.
She longs to take flight,
knowing history was just a whim.

So there she floats in the sea,
waiting for a rescue to come.
For her whim she pays a hefty fee,
hiding her regret from all but some.
