"Scheduled gate activation. General Mitchell, SG-15 reporting for check in," the gate technician phoned into the base commander's office off the briefing room. Mitchell set down the file he was working on and hurried into the control room to be met by the image of Garrett Jackson, leader of SG-15.
"Sir, you're gonna wanna send in SG-1. Well, the former SG-1. They're gonna wanna see this. You too, sir," the young blue eyed archaeologist told the man who was basically his uncle. The former colonel's eyes widened and he proceeded to pick up the phone to get his friends ready to go off world.

"How...," Daniel was rendered speechless by the writings on the wall, similar to those they'd found elsewhere. This was another meeting place of the four races, clearly, but how it was made, Daniel couldn't fathom. The Asgard had died years ago, only naming Humans as the fifth race shortly before their mass suicide. "But they weren't even...."
The room was circular, languages carved into the dark blue stone and painted with metallic that reflected the electric lantern Garrett's team had set up earlier. Those who were once SG-1 read what they could and stared in wonder at the rest. Symbols they'd seen on so many other worlds stared back at them, telling a story all their own. Daniel translated some quickly, roughly, and read it aloud as Vala stood beside him.
"And towards the end of the Asgard's existence, when all seemed doomed by beings called Replicators, a group sprung forth from a distant planet to aid them. They fought bravely and did all they could to defeat the enemy. They saved the Asgard and in return, the Asgard saved them. The two became allies and the Humans from Earth grew into their destiny or purpose," Daniel almost whispered the words, so reverent was his tone.
Sam and Teal'c stood quietly in the center of the room, Cam and Garrett beside them. The former teammates had grown older in the past twenty-five years, but they remembered their triumphs well. Each replied images of Thor and Asgard beams and little crystals in their minds. It didn't seem so long ago that it felt like the galaxy might fall to the enemy. But they'd made it through together.
"They displayed the qualities that united the four ancient races into a single bond. Honor, compassion, loyalty and a fierce sense of justice. This prompted the Asgard to build a memorial before their planned death, so that others might know of the Fifth Race. Within this room is a record of every interaction of Humans and Asgard, forever here. 'We are from the same and so still are bound.'"
Vala swept a tear before it rolled down her cheek and leaned into Daniel's side. Their son met her eyes as she turned to look at him, proud that he had made such an important and sentimental discovery. "Thought the reasons for this place might want to take a look at it. They must have left someone behind to make a record or done it before they died," he whispered as he looked around at the family that had raised him.
"O'Neill would have appreciated this room's significance," Teal'c said after a long pause where they had all been lost in thought.
"Yes, yes he would have." Daniel leaned down to kiss Vala's forehead. A gray streak was making its way through her dark hair and the tiny crow's feet around her eyes reminded him that time was passing. Their son had grown old enough to lead an off world team. Races died out. Teams broke apart. Ranks were promoted. Life was too short. Daniel was determined to live out his life with vibrancy and love, as some would not get the chance. And as he looked into sparkling gray-blue eyes, his wife communicated that she would be doing exactly the same thing with him, by his side, until they too went out.
