Anarchy Online

I was intrigued by this recent Anarchy Online offer. They give out their basic version of the game for free, and you can have an account for a year for free as well. Sounds great, no? I knew AO was a bit dated, and was actually counting on this to guarantee that performance would be decent. After 36 hours waiting on the bittorrent link, you know, the system with the mindblowing ability to serve up an incredible 5k/s, we finally got the game and all installed it. Let me try to describe the next hour: mental daggers.

I could not belive how bad the game was. Performance was like trying to work the ATM, via proxy, through your grandmother. You know what else is flipping amazing? When the map spawns off multiple dimensions to better handle the player load, then doesn't bother to make this information available in the least. Try getting four players together in that sort of environment. Once we did get to actually play some of the game, it was terribly disapointing. I really can't think of any way to completely explain how bad the gameplay was, but I'd rather play manure roulette than try to get up and running in AO again.
