and THEN they have a simultaneous orgasm. with FIREWORKS.

Thanks to chainofclovers, kitnkabootle, and others who have had a bad influence on me, I spent about six solid hours tonight watching Angels in America. There is a lot going on in that miniseries but, reduced to its most juvenile and self-interested point, it has Meryl Streep playing a character with short, silver hair. You can probably see where I'm going with this ( Read more... )

I'm pretty sure I'm done desecrating a cinematic work of art with a really important message for now, but I hope the rest of you are just getting started!

You just cut straight to the important things. :)

(Those last two photos are the reason I maintain Meryl did SOMETHING INVOLVING VOODOO in DWP, because she seriously does not look exactly like Meryl Streep, beyond the change in hair.)

I might be inclined to agree with that. Have you noticed that during the last scene of DWP she reverts to her usual face? When she smiles in the car, just before saying "Go." It's so jarringly spooky.

I know, right! It's damn right freakish!

I am delighted you've actually seen it! Isn't it just delicious? As much as I love Meryl lezzing it out with Emma Thompson (my third favorite celebrity/girlfriend/person in the world), I was also a little wee bit in love with Ethel Rosenberg. And hey the rabi was fun too!

But really, yes... Morman Meryl. What I loved was how there was hints at her underlying lesbian sexuality that she refused to acknowledge in her self, let alone her son. And then to have the angel bring it out in her and let her orgasm to her inner beauty. Perrfection.

I've said it once and I'll say it again - if you get the soundtrack to Angels in America you'll blush whenever Plasma Orgasmata plays. Cause you know who's plasma orgasmataing at that part ;)

Please answer me this -> did it inspire a fic?

I don't think so. My fic engine seems to be temporarily stalled. I'm kinda tired. I have hopes it will rev up again soon, though :)

As to the rest, I agree; I think it was wonderful that the miniseries acknowledged the power of physical pleasure not only to rule our appetites, but to engage us with the world and open our hearts. I'm glad Hannah got her orgasm. It might well have been her first.

Probably. It was very well deserved, anyway. :)

Off-topic here, but I've been meaning to ask you: did you make that yourself? If so, massive props -- it's delectable. If not, is there a corresponding fic for which it was created?

I adore that miniseries... I've managed to watch it all the way through at least three times now, although it's rather hard on the ass.

Be honest - did you realize that she was also the rabbi at the beginning of the movie? (No points if you already knew...) I didn't even pick up on it the first time I saw it - that's how good she is.

Or, perhaps, how slow I am. In the interests of full disclosure and all.

No, I didn't see it either, until the credits rolled. I was stunned. I went back and listened to the first scene again, and then I could definitely identify her voice--but it hadn't even occurred to me before. I think the bit where she's talking to Louis while waiting for the bus is even more convincing.

"Please let them make out. Please let them make out."

Ha! So I wasn't alone being consumed by these thoughts at the first viewing of AiA. I'm so relieved. :)

It really is an astonishing piece of work. So much going on. Having seen the play years ago, I have to say I think it's even better as a mini-series, the expansion really worked for me. I tried to watch it again with a friend recently, but she begged me to turn it off after an hour. It really isn't for everyone.

It's due back at the library today. I was fully expecting that I'd have to return it and then check it out again (we can't renew), since I couldn't imagine watching it all in one gulp. And then...I did!

I couldn't stop watching it either. I was mesmerized. It seems to me like it's one of those things you're either really fascinated by, or thoroughly bored with.

That part was I think my favorite in the miniseries. I've seen it a couple of times now, in one view, and I still love it. It's just so amazing.

And I'm with kitnkabootle, did it inspire a fic?
