Choosing, preMiranda/Andrea, G, Prompt: Divergent Crossover punky_96 June 19 2021, 03:19:29 UTC
Andrea felt her throat closing, time had run out. Her entire life had been spent with her family and learning the ways of Abnegation. She struggled with fitting in and wondered if she really belonged here with her family, with those dressed the same, with those committed to helping others first and foremost.

It seemed like a lie to her. How could she help someone else to the point of making herself disappear? And yet, when she had the chance at school and that bitch Emily from Candor had fallen down, hadn't Andy helped her? Even though, she elbowed Andy quite hard in the ribs as thanks. Wasn't that Abnegation?

The auditorium filled. Those familiar greeted others with smiles. However, those positive salutations were generally limited to the section they ultimately were also seated in.

Curves of the mouth were faced toward each other in a palpable measure of the other from across the aisles.

The leaders of each faction settled into their chairs on the stage. The host began his speech. Faction before blood. Faction before family.

Andrea swallowed hard. Dauntless. The leader for Dauntless was having a word with a tall woman with white hair and ruthless blue eyes. Her mouth was set in a grim line. Her posture indicated that he was one whisper away from a bloody nose. The tall blond who had given Andrea her test stood behind the woman with volcanic fury in her blue eyes.

Andrea glanced around the kids she grew up with. The kids who always seemed to fit in with each other. The kids who never discussed how they were the same or different. The kids who also took their tests and never said a word about them, as if it was taken for granted that all Abnegation kids tested for Abnegation and would choose Abnegation.

One by one they were all called up. Called forward. Called to choose.

Emily Charlton. Candor. Cut her hand. Let it drip into Dauntless.

Lily Evergreen. Abnegation. Cut her hand. Let it drip into Candor.

Doug Rhodes. Abnegation. Cut his hand. Let it drip into Erudite.

Andrea Sachs. Abnegation. Stood for long seconds staring at the bowls.

The host reminded her to make her choice, that they were all waiting.

Andrea Sachs. Glanced back at her family, her growing up faction, her friends, who chose elsewhere.

Andrea Sachs. Who cut her hand. Imagined the powerful woman who made her mind race with thoughts and her fingers tingle. Who let her blood drip into Dauntless.

Faction before blood.

Andrea Sachs. Dauntless.
