delurking (again) and posting!!!

Jun 15, 2010 03:24

I have finally gotten over the cold that was attempting to kill me so I am now delurking for the second time to not only say hi, but to actually post something. This is only my second attempt at femslash, first for dwp, so please be gentle in your comments. If any mistakes were made with the posting I apologize and welcome instructions on how to do it properly. No one else but me has read this until now so any mistakes are all mine. There is no specific pairing so it can really be just about anyone you can imagine. So with all that out of the way on to the story.

Title: Home
Pairing: Unspecified
Rating: PG (It ends kinda mushy)
Disclaimer: I don't even own my car, let alone these characters.
Summary: A rough day with a happy ending.

It was supposed to be a smooth day. A long one, but a non-eventful one none the less. Things were supposed to run like clock work from beginning to end. That lasted all of two minutes after arriving at work. Just long enough for her to take her coat off and set her bag down, but not long enough for her to get a breath.

At first it was a series of small things. Her computer wasn't working as fast as it usually does. Every pen that she tried using ran out of ink. She finally gave up and started using a pencil that she found in her desk. The point broke as soon as it hit the paper.

By lunch time she was convinced that every bit of bad karma that she had collected over the years were exacting its revenge all at once. Things were not running the way that they should have been. In fact it was quite the opposite. The meeting she was supposed to be in was canceled, which would have normally been welcomed news, except that this one required a trip across town just as the skies opened and dumped a few inches of rain on the city. The weather forecast had called for sunny skies.

By 4 pm she was ready to crawl under her desk until it was quitting time. Her in-box that she had been working so hard on actually seemed to be growing and was threatening to take over her desk. She now cringed at the sound of a ringing phone as they seemed to only be bringing bad news. Things were going badly everywhere and she was actually powerless to do anything about it. This, of course, tripled her frustration level.

By 7 pm she knew that she had to leave. She still had a mountain of paperwork to go over, but she realized that in her current state of mind she would be completely and utterly useless. She would only wind up making things worse.

In the car on the way home she was sending up the latest of her many prayers that day for a calm ride home when the front tire went flat. After sitting still for a moment she found herself laughing to the point of tears. Nothing had gone right all day so why should the ride home have been any different.

Finally crossing the threshold into her home, she heaves a deep sigh of relief.

"Hey honey," comes the soft voice from the kitchen, "How was your day?"

Looking into soft eyes she saw only love and tenderness. She knew that she could vent all her frustration from the day and there would be no jokes or comments made. Instead she softly replies "It doesn't matter now. I'm home."
