Title: The Sun
Character/Pairing: Doctor [Ten]/Rose
Rating: PG
Word Count: 464
Author's Notes: In my obssession, I was rewatching older episodes of Series Two and this just fell into my head. It's barely even a ficlet, more like an extended drabble.

She never tells him what the werewolf says. She keeps the analogies to the fact that glows like the sun, and has a bit of the wolf in her and has looked into something no one else has deep inside her.

These are private thoughts, unshared bits of knowledge and information. She doesn’t want to worry the Doctor, her Doctor, by telling him these things, because she knows (she can’t explain how, yet she just does) that he wouldn’t understand.

There was something that twitched inside her when the wolf-creature looked at her. Glittered, glowed, moved as if it was begging to be let out to stop it. As if, she, Rose Tyler, had the power to take down this beast that ordinary men had failed in front of.

The sun is a powerful thing, even as it dies. She knows, because she’s seen it. It was their first date.

Mickey joins them and incentive to share her secret lessens even more. It could’ve been a private thing, just her and her Doctor, but now Mickey is here and she doesn’t feel he deserves to know, despite all their history. Her Doctor leaves her for a woman trapped by time and she resolves herself never to tell of her accord. She’ll carry this secret to her grave.

Sitting alone, waiting for the TARDIS to land, or crash or whatever will happen this time, she wonders if she is the sun, if that makes her Juliet, like Shakespeare once said and where is her Romeo and if she is really destined to die tragically in the name love.

She no longer hopes so. She used to; used to find such a fanciful notion sweet, charming, and devastatingly romantic. Now, she sees it as it is-something horribly foolish, a cruel death to be torn down by love because you couldn’t have it in life.

There will come a time, she knows, when she’ll have to show him. It’s inevitable. A secret, a power, a force such as this cannot be contained forever, and she is not the girl to do it.

She will glow for him.

She has saved the world once already, nearly died for love and seen into forever. She still contains forever deep inside, even if she isn’t supposed to.

She is the sun. She’ll just wait for him to need her in his sky, for her to be a phoenix, burn for him, and she’ll rise from the ashes.

She’s done it once before. He just doesn’t know that, she’ll never tell him unless he needs to know. In the meantime, she waits for another adventure and sees where the stars and time takes her, and lets him think he needs to save her.

Her Doctor. She’ll save him. She always will.
