So an acquaintance I've been chatting with online asked me why I've been so quiet this week. I shared the following:
Heh. So I came in to work Monday morning and had a convo that basically went:
Boss: "Hey, remember a month or two back when we were talking about getting a student worker for your department?"
Me: "Yeah...?" (Already trying to think of ways to avoid getting press-ganged into reading over more badly written resumes.)
Boss: "Well, I didn't like any of the ones that applied, so I hired a girl from my church instead."
(Me, mentally groaning. My boss has a habit of pulling things like this without asking for input.)
Me: "Okay... she have any computer experience?"
Boss: "Oh, yeah, she's really computer savvy. Her father's an engineer."
(I mentally groan as that means jack and ****.)
Boss: "So by the way, she'll be here in about 10 minutes. Make sure you take her around the clinic for introductions, stop by immunizations to get her up to date, have her sign the HR paperwork and then she's all yours to train."
(I have a couple brief, yet pleasant and mildly homicidal, fantasies involving my boss. I also mentally hear the sound of a toilet flushing; being my plans for the week, some karmic balance being repaid, or both.)
Her IT experience...? Well, she's barely above average in today's tech savvy crowd. Never programmed, installed an operating system, built a computer or even done more than basic trouble shooting.
On the upside, I sent her with verbal instructions that I prefer a 20oz mocha with 4 shots and that I hate Starbucks and the swill from the Student Union. She managed to find the correct coffee shop, didn't screw up the order, and got it back still hot. She also catches on fast with minimal repetion and is a heck of a lot easier on the eyes than my co-workers. (All of them are 50+ and most are menopausal billing office drones...) And I do so enjoy having a direct minion again, so I may have to keep her...
Other plans this week:
Tonight:Victory Hall Cancelled... uhm 40k tonight?
Tomorrow: Get my Eldar back from Barrach around 6, then 40k with Roland?
Saturday afternoon: Going away party for a co-worker of Sara's who also went to high school with her. I've been told I can be snarky as long as it is subtle and intellectual, but that I'm not allowed to totally unleash on someone. :-|
Saturday evening: Feast w Tara and maybe bad movies after.
Sunday: Uhm... I know there's something...
