I've only been here two days, but I love it. When I arrived my first Korean experience was with this woman named Ann. She was one of the four selected to go on the earlier flight and I was mentioning how I was concerned that I was arriving earlier and on another airlines-- that I wouldn't be able to find Erica. She fed me and kept me warm, going out of my way to make sure I got to Erica safely. She even gave me money to call her if I ever needed anything. I love knowing that I have 3 friends now to call on, two of them who are Korean. I love how selfless she was and how she genuinely cared for me. I gave her a hug and we parted. I think I'm going to call her today. Korean women are so amazing.
Yesterday Erica and I ran around Seoul de and Sincheon. To get to Seoul de we took the subway and then a taxi. I envy Erica and her Korean language skills. The subway was fun, so quiet. I forgot how quiet Koreans are in public. While on the subway I had a chance to help a Korean woman by getting the newspaper off the top shelf. She thanked me and I felt good. When we arrived at Seoul de I got to meet Pastor Choi who helps with Seoul de's International Students. He was a wonderful man who traveled the world and had wonderful stories to tell. He recommended that I go to Africa for my honey moon and ride this train that follows the sun-- the sun sets so big and all the animals gather around it. He said it was like experiencing creation. We had lunch with him and after we went to Erica's to get my stuff and move it into my room.
Getting my luggage to the college was interesting. Usually a 10 minute walk, yesterday it took longer because it was graduation day. It was like all of Seoul was celebrating. Flowers were everywhere and students were walking around in robes. So many people filled the streets. It was magical, but it took us a while to get the luggage to the dorms due to sidewalk traffic.
After moving in we decided to pick up some necessities for the room. It was a nice 15 minute walk to the store which was kind of like a Wal-mart, but not at all. I saw Wal-mart cause it was cheap and had everything, but everything there was natural and healthy. Also, it was like Costco in the sense that there were samples everywhere, yet the women who were giving out samples would yell out about the product. It was so loud, but so much fun. I was so lost. I loved how they would sell it to me in Korean and all I understood was "machisayo" which means tasty.
After all of that Erica and I decided to do more exploring. I love how all the women in Korea link arms. It reminds me of being little. We jumped on the band wagon and did the same. While running around, exploring Sincheon, we went to this meat house and had... bacon. Well, not really. It was like having big thick sliced of bacon and you ate it with lettuce and chili pepper sauce. SO GOOD! I love the food here, but it is so spicy. I can't wait till I develop my tolerance again.
Well, I'm off to eat lunch and then get ready for the day. I'm excited!!!! I'm going to Intaewon!!!!!!!
PS-- Haven't slept well for 2 days... I am so tired, but I don't want to waste a minute of my day.
