SDCC con report...Friday
AKA the best laid plans go very very wrong
First l woke up early Friday in hopes of achieving two things but knowing at least one of them would probably get axed
You see Starz decided in a very dumb move that is devoid of all logic to schedule the line drawing for autographs at 9am and the line up for Ballroom 20 at 7am where the first panel would not begin until at 10am but it would be Miracle Day.but so many people attending SDCC and so many people wanting into the Ballroom even if their panel IS NOT MD but the next thing or even the next thing after that
It would take a clone or some one standing in for you on the autograph line or vortex-manipulatorl in order to do both...I just had myself to I thought OK I will do the autograph and I thought that during this I would present Jane Espenson with the banner along with a SIJ business card, postcards and the campainge disk I still had a really nice one with a red lightscribe Ianto cover
9am comes and goes no line drawing yet...9:15...nothing, but I start to see the line for Ballroom 20 finally be let into the room...still no line drawing for autographs..9:30...I hear tales of how the lines for both the autographs and BW20 are so long that the stretch beyond the Marina...It is 9:45 and finally we have line movement only it is into the Sails Pavilion a little longer finally the drawing.
From here it is the standard SDCC bag of tickets with the winner having an stamp (an easter egg) on it...I am like 20 people back from the front and on the first go I dont get a winning ticker...I am told we would be allowed to get back in line and repeat drawing until there were no more winning tickets ...OK why is it we can't just give tickets on a first come basis??? Just saying...
So on my second try I get a winner yeah!!! missing the panel wont be waisted...no way the signing is being ran by over zealous f-n morons...but more on that later
Now as you can gather the panel and the autograph were an either or...had I not drawn a winner I would have missed both with no we're sorry but you lose
The winning ticket gets a blue band with a time and a room# 11:15 28b so right after the panel...I was told the line for autographs starts at 10..it is 10 by the time I get my winning ticket and there is no way that I am going to get into the panel so I go to the room and wait until after the panel.
AT 11:15 The Miracle Day cast is walked out of the backdoor to BW20 which opens up to BW28b I see JB and the back of EM's head and I think I see Scott Bakula, turns out it was him he was there to see Bill Pullman
the MD cast walk into BW28b and that is when this lady from Starz springs this bombshell on us; a set of rules that would piss off a saint
You are not to greet the stars, shake their hands or talk to them, you cannot take any pictures, anything electronic must be turned off, you cannot bring anything to be signed, Straz will provide the only thing that will be signed, and you must keep the line flowing....Oh yeah if you are caught violating any of these they will take your badge away
OK right now if you are me you are thinking I so made the wrong choice. I cant give the poster to Jane Espenson, I cant get EM's autograph (the only one I wanted) the only thing that the guess will be allowed to sign will have Miracle Day printed all over. when I mentioned that this violated the bylaws of SDCC which states that a star cannot refuse to sign the SDCC souvenir booklet...also when I asked could I at least shake EM hand this was also shot down...in short I was fucking screwed...So next comes the flood of questions from them as to why I didnt want the Miracle Day/Starz provided photo signed which as you know me brings up a lot of shit from my past; shit I rather not have to think about but because of my love of Torchwood has been since first hearing about Oswald. Yes I said I was never going to watch Torchwood without Ianto ...but also true is I CANT watch Miracle Day because of Oswald Danes. I was so pist I blurted out the reasons I am in tears because I feel liked I failed, feel like shit because it felt like my perp/and also Oswald had won. Crushed me in a way that just made me hate my brother, hate Starz, and hate the Starz woman telling me they wont bend. The only person who cared was one of the SDCC gaurd who I never meant to have my story told is brought her to tears and she handed me a paper on who to complain to telling me it wasnt them but that each limited signings were not covered because these were put on by the company putting on the panel in this case Starz.
I was sure what to do but I gave my blue band to a Gwen cosplayer I know well who is a sweetheart who went through hurdles just to get the day off and even after three tries still didnt have a band. I said it would have better use on her, she loves Gwen and is watching MD
After that I just had to get away from the con so I went to Sea Port Village and when I got back I went to the Starz booth THANK GOD IT WAS A DIFFERENT LADY and gave them the sign, postcards,business Card and promo disk...I called the sign a thank you card...didnt tell them it also said ...but we still want Ianto back...my friend Gene video taped me giving the card to the Starz booth.
