Well, I've now been in LA for over a week. So far at work I've been doing actual work in the morning and basically reading research/sitting at the computer/emailing other Sharpies in the afternoon. After work the fun continues. Usually after I get back to Cal State I go and check email, have some dinner, then do whatever we're doing in the evening, from watching TV to throwing parties to playing wild games of all sorts. There's a good bunch of people here from all over the country, and they all have their little quirks. I'll post some pictures whenever I remember to bring the camera to the computer lab. Anywho, now for some highlights:
*Friday evening: went to the movies to see Batman Begins. Tickets here are $10 regular price/$9 student. Good movie second time around.
*Saturday: Education and Career Workshop sponsored by Frito-Lay. We talked to some professors and got tons of free chips. Snackwise we're set for a few weeks. Glendale Galleria: It's a bit different from the one my Bham readers are familiar with. They had this Lego store with all the Legos you could ever want including buckets where you could take random pieces out of, kinda like at a candy store. We also watched some hard core DDR players battle it out and one guy in our group challenged them but backed down when they called him on it.
*Sunday: UCLA. Very pretty campus. We were going there early in the morning for a presentation on Egyptian Sun Cults at 9 am, but when we got there we found out that they pushed it back to 11. After spending some time at BK and driving down Sunset Blvd we made it back to the presentation to keep from falling asleep there. Luckily we had an Ethiopian festival to attend which saved us from more lectures. There I had some Ethiopian vegetarian dish of spicy salad, lentils, and potato stuff, some Ethiopian coffee, and listened to some Ethiopian music and stories. And my name in their language is Daweet.
Next weekend: Citywalk, Disneyland, Hollywood Bowl. Stay tuned!
