Fantasy Land
I was poking around on Wikipedia and happened to start reading entries about Final Fantay 7. Whoever wrote the article claims that Aerith Gainsbourough served as the model for Mutsumi Otohime in "Love Hina". I thought about it for moment and I think they might be right.
Now the funny thing is that I've been working on this Love Hina fanfic for a while. One scene I came up with had Keitaro and his buddies Haitani and Shirai talking about video game girls and debating who was the best FF7 girl. If I remember my LH lore Haitani likes older girls and Shirai likes younger ones. So Haita favored Aries (who was a year or two older than Cloud) while Shirai liked Yuffie who is...pretty much jailbait. Keitaro picked Tifa because she was the one who held on to the promise she and Cloud made as kids.
So really, if you look at the Love Hina girls you can see a bit of FF7 influence. Naru and Tifa are both really stacked girls who can punch like hell, Shinobu looks like Yuffie and acts like Aeris, Su acts like a miz of Yuffie and and Cait Sith and Haruka always has a ciggarette in her mouth like Cid.
Sure, most of it's surface stuff but it does make you wonder.
