Hitotu illustration

Finished a couple of days ago for a small Japanese indie anthology called Hitotu, though whether or not it made the deadline is another matter.

My style seems to be slowly progressing towards something, but I can't place what exactly. The white silohuette is definitely from the Western comics I've been reading, though I wouldn't be able to say which one, since the ones I've read recently don't have it. Usually I just see black silohuettes...

In any case, like many of my pictures, this one was a result of random experimentation in an attempt to keep from looking too much like xxxholic, since my original concept had a lot of curling smoke. I morphed the smoke into a huge chicken, got rid of the chicken to have a tall, creepy fellow in a top hat and penguin-tailed tuxedo whispering in his ear, but even that was too xxxholic anime, not to mention terribly trite. So I started throwing circles and bars and lines all over the place and experimented with random figures standing or reaching through windows until I finally settled on a scritchy, undefined figure reminiscent of my poor memories of African-inspired art.
