Ok, I am in a bit of a problem, and could use some advice.
I have a part time job in addition to my full time job. I got this part time job for two reasons.
The most important one was that they have health insurance. My full time job, even though enjoyable, has good pay, and is very flexible, does not offer health insurance.
The other reason I got the part time job was so that I could get a bit more money. It's a good reason as well, but not nearly as importnat as the first.
Well, I started to get my benefits, and because I am part time, and I took the second to best insurance they offer (202.00 per paycheck), AND to top it all off, the company that the insurance goes through has not gotten the paperwork saying that Richard, who also has a full time job with no insurance, I am being smacked with a $100.00 per paycheck fee for putting him on my insurance. To make a long story short, my first paycheck with insurance out, and the $100.00 fee included came out to be $25.00.
I screamed. Apparently the company that my part time job goes through lost my paperwork, and until they find it, which can be anywhere from 1 week to a month, the $100.00 fee will stay. They even went so far to say that even after I get it taken off, there is no guarantee that I will get that money taken back.
Richard is all for just cancelling the insurance, but I have gone almost a year without insurance, and I feel so much better having it. Besides, being married to a klutz like him, (he just recently sprained his ankle) I feel better having it. Our deductibles are kick ass, and it comes with full dental and vision.
I agree with him on the money aspect. I did know beforehand that the insurance was going to be expensive, but I had no idea that it was going to be per paycheck until recently, but even then I wanted to keep it. Richard needs insurance more than I do with his health problems.
However, it also is kinda bummy that I work for a job, and when I get my paycheck in my hand, I really don't have any money to show for it. It also annoys me to no end that there is a good chance that I had paperwork lost that was no fault of mine, and even though that happened, there is a good chance that they will not reimburse me.
This is what I know so far. I do know that it will probably take a good month to successfully change my insurance to a lower type. However, I would lose some good benefits with the type I have now. Richard has spoken to 2 doctors he needed to speak to, and we have a dentist that is willing to work with us, insurance or not. Richard still needs to speak with 3 other doctors, and I need to get a full check up.
Both of us have started looking for private insurance, but it's hard to find any that will cover much. PLEASE...any advice would be great. Just email me, or leave a comment below. Thanks in advance!!
