First, let's talk about our old friend Bush. I was watching The Chris Matthews Show Sunday morning, and they had a segment about why doesn't Bush ask questions, especially when it comes to important things? The context for this was how the CIA released a statement last week saying Iran had stopped their nuclear program years ago, thus not being a nuclear threat. Bush was told recently by a CIA official there would be some new info soon regarding Iran, but I guess Bush didn't bother to inquire about it. Instead he continued on with his "we need to go to war with Iran" campaign. I'm pretty sure the only words out of Bush's mouth over the past year have been "We need to go to war with Iran." Seriously. It's just "Iran bad! Come on! We gotta go to war!"
Other examples of Bush not asking questions were given. In August of 2001, a high ranking person (I'm not sure, probably FBI or Department of Justice official) flew down to Texas to see Bush when he was on his month long vacation to tell him about the infamous "Bin Laden plans to strike in the US" memo. But apparently Bush didn't ask any questions. Also, they showed a clip of a video press conference Bush had with a weather expert the day before Hurricane Katrina hit and the guy said he wasn't sure if the levees would hold. Hmmm.
Ok, let's talk about the presidential race. Republicans. Guliani was on Meet the Press Sunday. He was talking about the primary schedule. He mentioned several times that his poll numbers are up in Florida. I think once he just said the word Florida in the middle of a sentence. "Florida" is his new "9/11".
Huckabee is doing good in Iowa. I would stop short of saying he will win Iowa. But he has a problem. His campaign has little money. After Iowa, I think the New Hampshire primary is 3 days away, where Romney has a big lead and lots more money. It seems doubtful that Huckabee will be able to keep going. Guliani or Romney will probably win the other 3.
I read an opinion piece that claimed Guliani and Hillary would not win any of the first 4 primaries, but would win big on Super Tuesday and go on to win the nominations. I don't believe this. I think if one candidate for either party wins the first 4 primaries, it's done. They will have a ton of momentum going into Super Tuesday, and people will just be like, "well that guy keeps winning, I'll just vote for him." People are looking for electability.
Although I don't think any one Republican is going to win all 4 of the first primaries. Possible, but I think it's going to be a big fight for the GOP nomination. At least until super Tuesday, then it's over. Like 25 states have their primary that day. So no later then that day will we know who the nominee are.
Hillary is becoming undone. Obama is looking more presidential and more confident. He has been improving himself rapidly over the past few months. I think it is very possible for him to win the 4 primaries, and after that Hillary is done. Hopefully Edwards drops out early. That will surely help Obama. If Hillary wins Iowa all is not lost for Obama, but it will be a lot harder. I guess it depends on how close she beats him. But I think he will win Iowa.
I think as early as we get the results in Iowa, people are going to start dropping out. People like Biden, Dodd, Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo or whatever his name. People who don't stand a chance. Why keep wasting their time and money?
Chris bet me 10 dollars that either Guliani or Hillary will be the next president. I can't wait to get my 10 dollars. I'm confident Obama will be the DEM's candidate. I kinda want Huckabee for the GOP. I don't really agree with him on a lot of the issues, I just hate him less out of all the other candidates.
A little more than 3 weeks to Iowa!
