Create your own OVI App

Dec 24, 2010 23:35

And so about a month plus ago, Serge attended the Nokia OVI App workshop held at KDU Damansara with Nuffnang Malaysia. This was a simple workshop of which Serge created an app for his Dustyhawk :: Broken Mirror. Now by the powers vested in Serge this site is in a sense, iOS, Android and near Symbian worthy.

Now with the knowledge in his hand and because it is simple to make your own app, Serge is going to educate all you Symbian-OS / OVI-enabled phone users to make your own app. There are two things that you need, a valid RSS and photos for your icon/background. Have those? Perfect! Time for a timeskip and a jump

Get to the page first by going to www.oviappwizard.com. Once you’re here, Serge recommends that you register first. Why register? Well after publish your app to the world, wouldn’t you like to check your stats you ego-centric person you ? =D

With that done, you’ll be at the dashboard of awesomeness. This is Serge’s dashboard and as you can see he has his Dustyhawk via OVI. Now then, go and click on [Build a New Application] and you’ll come to the following page.

In this section at the first [_______] this is where you place your RSS / ATom feed. If you need help on locating your feed, contact Serge and he’ll try and help you out. Anyway, place the RSS/Atom Feed and click on [Preview].

The right side will generate a preview of how your app will look like on an OVI enabled phone. Satisfied? Click [next] now.

Here is where the picture, we ask for is important. This is where you create how the icon looks like on the phone as well as the header image. Steps for this is simple and Serge will not explain it.

Next up are the [Application Name] and [Channel 1 Name]. Be careful when filling up this section, for [Application Name] will be the name that will be displayed on the OVI Store, [Channel 1 Name] is what will be displayed once the app is launch. Notice how [Channel 1 Name] is the same on the right side as you make the changes to it?

Once the images has been place and title has been given, look at it in the preview; nice? If not, play around with it until you’re satisfied, also remember the [Application Language] for this determines where in the world it is going to be publish. Serge recommends English and now click [next].

Be smart and read the EULA before agreeing. Just remember to use your own content and such, do not steal the content of others! When you do agree, just click on [continue] to proceed.

This part is for anyone who wants to place adverts in their app. For this part, Serge would say its really your choice. No steps for this as Serge did not take this particular option. If you do choose it, read the instructions.

At this page, this is how you describe your OVI App to the world. Here’s a tip, keep it simple but relevant and keep it free. For being free is really good and letting it [App Distribution] is good. Click [finish].

You’ll come back to the dashboard and now you have your app here, but remember that it is not publish in the OVI Store yet. Click on [Submit to OVI Store], depending on content it roughly takes 48-72 hours before approval and it is place on the OVI Store.

Once it has been approved, you’ll get an email saying that it is. Now have fun as you can tell your friends to download your app to their OVI enabled phone and while you’re at it, remember to download Dustyhawk via OVI to keep up to date on what Serge does in his life and for other tips such as this.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all and let 2011 be awesome!
