Comic Fiesta 2010 is Over 9000

Recently, Comic Fiesta held their annual convention here at the Manhattan Ballroom of Times Square Hotel. This event was overly epic and Serge is proud to say it is indeed OVER 9000. As part of the comm who does menial work, he is happy to say that even though this year had its ups and down, overall it went really well.

To begin, the comm, volunteers and Serge are indeed avid fans and we just love all things anime, manga and cosplay related. It isn’t hard to imagine as all of us who does this every year, do this voluntarily. We don’t get paid for it, the countless hours and months that we place to make this event and to see all the con-goers happy is the driving force of why we do this. Serge has been with the comm since 2005 and in his fifth year, this is one of the most successful ones which Comic Fiesta has held since their inception.

Due to his position, Serge had the luxury of being late on the first day and he arrived at the event location around 1000hrs. Upon his arrival, Serge nearly died of a heart attack. The crowd that was lining up to buy tickets to enter span from one end of the hallway to the other. A rough guesstimate, at least 300+ was lining up. Serge then wiggled his way through the lines and anchored himself at the back of the counter. A resting period that lasted less than 20 second as he needed to get some items done.

It was about two hours later when Serge was able to get into the hall. At this junction, the crowd wasn’t that much but like a slow moving mud flood it increased. Cries of joys could be heard as friends who has not seen their friends for ages got together. The doujin area was jam-packed with con-goers who wanted to buy their artwork. Trying to get to one end to the other, required the slithery skills of a Liquid Snake. Hips bangings, hands of Serge was raised up in the air to make sure that he did not have his hand on some mammary glands.

Outside of the hall, we could see cosplayers with their elaborate costumes. Some was simple, some was elegant and some was epic. What was really moving about all of this was that 80% of all the cosplayers here, tailored their own costumes and created their own props. Another noteworthy mention was that some played their characters well. In this two days of Comic Fiesta, all of us who were there lived our fantasy of being our beloved protagonist.

Somewhere around 1300hrs or so, we did our opening ceremony. The style and theme was that of Evangelion, with our president who grew his beard and became our Gendou. The crowd laugh and they cheered. Again, we had our lovely duo Alfred and Shaun who were our emcee. Their jokes although crude is loved by all and because they too are fan of comics, they too are able to relate to the con-goers. Something that makes them a really great pair.

Group Cosplay competiton was done. Love how the Chrono Cross team did their skit, however it was the only one Serge saw as he had other matters to attend on the first day. After settling some items, he had a quick chat with Phil Ortiz. Yes, the guy who is drew for The Simpsons was at Comic Fiesta and he was with Phil Yeh as well. Somewhere around 1630hrs, both of them gave a talk.

After Day 1 and some rest, Serge brought his butt over for Day 2. Today the line for ticket sales seems less but in an epicness that goes beyond any internet meme of Shatnerday; tickets sales for both days as of 1300hrs of Day 2 is indeed ….OVER 9000!! Serge does not know the total of both days as one of the lovelies is busy counting the sales of both days right now.

Anyway, for today is Singles Cosplay Competition. Not sure why, but this year did not have much oomph to it. Preferred the group session and also Karie looks fabulous today. Serge had a conversation with Kathy and her sis (?). These two lovelies, Serge has met before at another event.

Took a rest at the storage room, here in this room his phone got raped by Reina. Though all is forgiven as Shiomaru was singing. Such a lovely voice and love her performance that happen at the end of Comic Fiesta 2010. We finished around 2100hrs and it was good. Really good and officially Over 9000. At this junction, Serge suffers from spaghetti legs, flu and the usual works.
