Dusty needs a home

Feb 11, 2012 19:50

Dusty is a 2 year old neutered male Australian Shepherd. He was in training as a service dog, but as he grew it became clear he is not suited to service work. I placed him in a wonderful home where he was thriving. Unfortunately Dusty wasn't a good fit in the home and due to many circumstances he is back with me and looking for a good home. We are in CT and I would like to keep him in this area, but for the right home, I am open to sending him further.

Dusty is a very typical Australian Shepherd. He is eager to please and has a wild sense of humor. His greatest goal in life is to make his people laugh. He likes to control chaos, sometimes in inappropriate ways. For this reason he would not do well with small children. Older dog savvy children would be a joy for him.

Dusty is great with other dogs and has lived with a cat. He can sometimes be the 'fun police' and will attempt to control the energy level of his dogs friends by barking or nipping. He will herd other dogs. Despite this, he is respectful of other dogs signals and will leave a dog alone who tells him off. He has lived with dogs of all sizes and tailors his play appropriately.

Dusty can be over-enthusiastic in greeting people. He will do a down stay and wait until released, but he has a really hard time keeping four feet on the floor once the person he is greeting touches him. He tends to not so much jump on people as jump in the air next to them. He has some magical gift that allows him to hover at eye height and wag his nubbin.

Dusty is good on a leash, knows all of his basic obedience and is house trained. He has some basics in agility and would do really well in most dog sports. Dusty is looking for a home with Aussie savvy people who can give him a job to do. If you are interested in adopting dusty please contact Laura at (203) 317 1443 or dragonmhs@gmail.com. There is an application process, contract and adoption fee.
