Christmas List 2014

Oct 06, 2014 21:42

Every year I post my/our Christmas list on our blog, behind a cut, so if anyone who wants to get us something wants to know what would be a good present, they get some ideas. Also, it helps for me to write it down, because sometimes someone calls and says e.g. "So what should I get the girls" and I blank. I do it a few months in advance because many of the people who give us gifts do so from far away.

I do it this way because I have my own weird hang-up where I don't like to ask other people what they want directly but love to peruse their wish lists. If you hate wish lists... scroll.

Me:
So I've gotten into crochet in a big way, and I would also like to get back into knitting, so my big wish is supplies for this hobby:
1. Yarn, especially nicer yarns that are machine washable, like superwash 100% merino. If you don't know a lot about yarn, one important thing to know when you buy more than one skein of a single colour, is to check the dye lot, which will be on the label. Different dye lots can look slightly different, so if you try to make a sweater from it, it'll look off.
2. A nice set of circular knitting needles with interchangeable heads. Currently I have NO knitting needles at all except for a set of double pointed needles. I would love a set of circular needles that I could also use as straight needles.
3. Crochet hooks, especially wooden or light up crochet hooks (these are hooks that have an optional light in the tip to help when crocheting in dim spaces or with dark yarns). I have 5mm, 6mm, 6.5mm, and 9mm basic metal crochet hooks, and a 10mm wooden crochet hook.

Chocolate, gummy candy, tea, and alcohol.

If clothing: size L or 10-12. I have an enormous head; women's "one size" hats do not usually fit.

For the girls:
No more stuffed animals (please). We already plan to donate a bag full this winter.

Trucks! I have asked for trucks for every single gift giving occasion for three years, and I think I just have to accept that nobody wants to give little girls trucks. Last major gift giving occasion, someone asked what to get the girls and I said we really needed trucks (we still have no true large trucks, although we do have a few small cars and wheeled animals) and they said ok so I didn't buy any trucks... they gave us a set of Disney Princess art supplies and two big poofy dresses... hahaha. Not that we didn't like and appreciate what they gave us! But it was kind of over the top. Anyway, I probably will end up buying some trucks myself, but I feel the need to put it on the list anyway.

A train set that packs away easily.

We have wooden alphabet blocks, basic MegaBloks (big lego), and a wooden castle set, so we are pretty good for building material toys for now I think.

Arts and crafts supplies. Especially stamping/painting.

Fabric pretend food for the toy kitchen.

Dress up and costume materials.

Books are always great.

Preschool level board games.

Pippa: Size 5 clothing. Size 10 dress shoes or sneakers (she has rain boots already).

Mimi: Size 24 mo clothing (although she doesn't really need much; she's mostly in hand-me-downs).

Gordon:

Cheese and wine. Chocolate. Cookies. Coffee beans.

Transit related stuff especially buses and subways.

Throat lozenges and nice tins for throat lozenges.

Gregorian chant and polyphonic sacred music stuff.

Vancouver Canucks stuff.

it's the most wonderful time of the year
