I can no longer remember whether my wallet was originally blue or grey

Today was my first day 100% Diclectin free, and was a bit odd. [Cut for nausea.]I didn't feel nauseated, but I threw up several times almost without warning--like, five to ten seconds of "you are about to puke" before heave-ho. And I had little to no appetite all morning and afternoon. I ate a single bowl of black beans, tomatoes, and rice and kept it all down. I just started to feel hungry so I had some mini rice cakes (like a regular serving) and now I'm full.
The plus thing is, I actually woke up at 8am feeling like a human being, despite not having gotten very good sleep the night before, and my rigged-up pillow nest did a decent job of helping my back, so I'm more or less pain free today. I still think I should probably get a full body pillow but for the time being this is working alright. The issue is that I tend to flip back and forth from left to right when I'm falling asleep, and I hate the hassle of having to rearrange pillows every time. A body pillow would at least be only one piece.
The Bay is having a sale ending today on wallets... I found out just as The Husband was leaving for work, and The Pipster was about to go down for her nap. She took a while to settle so she didn't actually fall asleep until almost 4pm. It's 5pm now and I'm not sure when she'll wake up or how she'll feel when she does. I really do need a new wallet (I've had the one I have now for over 8 years and it's a cheap canvas thing I bought for roughly $2 in southern China... it's really held up amazingly, considering its daily use since that time, but it's stained and too youthful for me [it has a cartoon mouse on it]).
I'm really fussy about my wallet features and this one is nearly perfect feature wise which is why I've been using it so long. The main thing is a built-in change pocket. Especially since I moved to Canada, having a change pocket is so handy. It also has a good see-through pocket for bus pass or ID. Its one weakness is not having a lot of card pockets. I don't have a lot of cards, but I have more than two, which is the number of card pockets my current wallet has (plus two hidden pockets which are too much of a hassle to keep debit type cards in).
So, I really would like to go, to see if they have that wallet I coveted but strangely wasn't on sale on Boxing Day on sale now (they say all wallets at least 25% off, so if they are still carrying it, then it would be). But when Pippa goes down for a nap late she's unpredictable. And she'll be hungry, which makes her grumpier. Plus you just get into a time crunch. Even assuming she wakes up at 5:30, it'll take me at least half an hour to get everybody ready to go (and that's without a snack--a snack would add 20 minutes), then 15 minutes to get to the store, then I've gotta budget at least 45 minutes to shop--it's already 7pm at that point. If we leave then, she won't get fed until like 7:45. If we eat at a nearby restaurant, it'll be an hour or more (she takes her time eating) and will add $15-20 to the cost of the wallet, probably much more than the 25% off would save me. Then 15 minutes to come home. Then getting ready for bed?
Writing it out makes me realize it's just not feasible. :( I did have a nice little daydream about Pippa and me eating a wonderful Mama/toddler dinner at White Spot (a local family-oriented chain sit-down restaurant). In my daydream, she cutely colors the placemat, expresses wonder and delight at the paper boat that the Pirate Pak comes in, and charms the pants off the waitstaff, while I sink my teeth into a chicken burger with extra Triple O sauce and endless fries. Probably better not to let that fantasy bubble get popped.
I really want a White Spot burger now though...
Sort of related but mostly not, you sometimes hear mothers talking about what phases of childhood they like the best... often especially to encourage new mothers who first hit a phase they don't like, that this is quite common, and people like different phases. I think I can say that I love the newborn to crawling phase, and I love the phase we're moving into now, where she's getting more and more verbal, but I think I really am not that big a fan of the in-between stage, roughly from eight months to 18 months. Not that it didn't have its pleasures, but I think I felt like on the one hand, she was seeking out more interaction than ever, yet on the other hand, I felt unable to truly communicate with her. When she was little-little, she was like a sponge, amazed at everything, and most of the "communication" is nursing, and she slept a lot, even if it wasn't in long enough chunks to allow ME to sleep, so I could read or whatever, and she was very portable, so I could just go wherever whenever.
From cruising til now, she only takes one nap so there's more "on time", less breaks; she wants interaction, but the things she wants to do are often kind of dull; she's heavier, and more awkward to take places, and she needs to be fed solid foods which has to be planned out and worked around, instead of me always having insta-meal-on-tap via nursing; she gets into trouble which is hard to predict and can't be instructed to behave absolutely because literally new things are happening all the time which she doesn't have any way of knowing are naughty or not until she tries them and gets a reaction. Communication begins, but goes like this: Pippa: Dog! Me: Yes, that's a dog. It's a big dog, isn't it? He has cute ears. Pippa: Dog! Me: What does the dog say? Pippa: *silence* Me: The dog says "woof woof". Pippa: *silence* Me: The dog is going away now. Bye-bye, dog! Pippa: Bye bye! *waves*
I know it's important to language development to have these one-sided conversations but I always feel awkward doing them and don't really enjoy them.
This is starting to change dramatically recently. Pippa went over to LB's house Monday and his dad watched them both during our fondue night (which went excellently, since I don't think I mentioned it). When she came home, this happened: Me: Did you have fun playing with LB? Pippa: Yeah. Me: What did you do? Pippa: Color. Me: Oh, you colored? That sounds like lots of fun. What did you have for dinner? Pippa: Soup! Me: Actually what you ate is called "chili" [I knew that from LB's dad], but chili looks like soup, doesn't it? I heard you ate a lot of garlic bread too. Was it tasty? Pippa: Yummy! Me: That's great! I'm so glad you had fun. You look tired now though. Pippa: *makes BED sign* Me: Yep, let's get you ready for bed.
The other day she saw an ad for chocolate graham goldfish crackers in a parenting magazine I was reading. She immediately identified the shape as "fish" (she's had the cheese crackers before), then looked at the picture of a chocolate bar in the ad and said inquiringly "Choc-ate?"
"Yeah, these are chocolate-flavored fish."
She appeared to think about this concept (I'm guessing, from her reaction, that she was imagining chocolate + regular cheese crackers) for a moment, then wrinkled her nose and said "Yucky!"
It's interaction on a different level and I'm really enjoying it. I think I'm going to love the twos and threes, but we'll see.
A lot of people don't like the newborn phase, or so I've heard. I love the newborn phase. They're little works of art. I just soak up the love.
It's almost 6pm now and Pippa's STILL asleep. Yep, the wallet thing definitely isn't happening. Oh well. There'll be other sales.
