My birthday cake plans have been thrown into disarray. Today, to have an easy dinner since The Husband needed to leave early to go to church to sing, we were having frozen pizza, salad, and strawberries. Some kind of assembly line mix-up happened to the pizza however because it was cut in half, but when it was frozen it didn't appear to be cut in half. I only discovered it when I went to take the pizza out of the oven and it pulled apart, drizzling toppings onto the oven floor.
I scraped stuff off as best as I could but it was smoking like crazy. The oven really needs to be cleaned. However I can't be mucking around with oven cleaner when Pip's around. And The Husband works tomorrow as well.
IDK. Honestly I am not a baker. I do not really enjoy baking the way that I enjoy cooking. And then decorating a cake is even further removed from cooking; it's crafting. Crafting has become an inferiority complex in me.
I have a coupon for $3 off a Dairy Queen ice cream cake. Maybe I should just do that. Or I could go to a Chinese bakery and get one of those sponge cake, whipped cream and fruit things. After all, this is the last birthday where Pippa has no input at all into what kind of cake it is.
I will need to be out and about tomorrow anyway, so I think I will peek into bakeries and get an idea of pricing. Things have been too crazy for me to get upset about this.
Here's what needs doing tomorrow (some hopefully delegated to The Husband):
1. Clean.
2. Buy a seedless watermelon and chia seeds for the frozen smoothies.
3. Cut up the watermelon into chunks and put the chunks in the freezer.
4. Figure out the birthday cake situation.
5. Make hummus or some other easy dip, and get/pick something to dip.
6. Clean some more.
7. Buy Pippa a birthday gift (maybe; I have a "My First Crayola" coupon).
8. Go to Mass (probably).
9. Finish some video game review stuff.
The #8 isn't definite because I might want to go to Mass Sunday morning instead. It all depends on whether Pip and I go to Mass with The Husband or not. The parish is having a picnic lunch, so, part of me would like to go, but if I went to that, Pip probably wouldn't fall asleep until we got home, and then she'd sleep through her own party. Or worse, she wouldn't sleep at all and be a crank monster.
Maybe I could just put in a brief appearance at the picnic lunch, say hi to people, grab a bratwurst, and then get home by 1pm. Pippa would still get in at least a good hour and a half, as long as people don't come early.
Public service announcement, by the way: do not come early to people who have a baby. Early people are the worst. THE WORST. Pre-baby I didn't mind, or even used to like it if one or two people showed up five or ten minutes early and helped out with the finishing touches, but now some variation on this is what always happens:
*doorbell rings*
Me: Oh no.
Pippa, mid-diaper affixation: She's distracted.
Pippa makes a naked break for it.
Me: Oh no!
*cue Yakety Sax*
*doorbell rings*
Me, struggling to stuff Pippa into an outfit and mentally picturing how awful I look: Just a minute!
*doorbelllllllllllll*
Me: :C
Pippa: :D
Doorbell: >:P
