How to go from

to

General color scheme for my first batch of Hellsing OVA icons tutorial--hopefully of some use! Requested by impression ~ ♥

I use PSP7, but I'm pretty sure this should translate.

We're going to icon this cap of Walter. Why? Because I play favorites. That's really the only reason. :D

NOTE: I only found one psp file in the folder that this batch is in, which means in order to have the batch look consistent I followed the same basic steps.

01.

Duplicate the base layer and set it to Screen 100%. Duplicate it again and set this layer to Soft Light 76%.

02.

Create a new layer, set to Exclusion 100%. Fill it with #00123A and duplicate it.

03.

Create a new layer, set it to Overlay 10%, and fill it with #E15C33.

04.

Create a new layer, set it to Burn 37%, and fill it with #F9B3F3.

05.

Create a new layer, set it to Overlay 34%, and fill it with #BEB0B0.

06.

Create a new layer, set it to Exclusion 21%, and fill it with #00123A.

07.

Create a new layer, set it to Multiply 44%, and fill it with #E1D08C.

08.

Duplicate your base layer, set it to Soft Light 13%, and place it above the Multiply layer.

09.

Copy the merged image, desaturate it, and set it to Soft Light 65% underneath those first two Exclusion layers.

10.

And voila, you have you an icon! I, however, am going to go ahead and add a level of Curves at the very top, which gives me this finished result:

Icon's up for grabs, questions are welcome, and don't forget that what works for one image won't neccessarily work for another(adjust those opacities, kiddos!).
