Tonight I was browsing the internet (as I often do) and came across Porn for the Blind. The premise is noble, I suppose, but the execution is just poor and, more than anything, kind of creepy. It seems to mainly be older men breathily describing (in the most vague and un-sexy of terms) short sample videos for pay porn sites. I kind of suspect Porn for the Blind is a joke, because it's so awful and (seemingly) unhelpful for the blind. Honestly, if I was blind, I think I'd just listen to the porn audio tracks; I could get my rocks off from some moaning. I certainly wouldn't seek out awkward nerds to describe it for me.
But that got me thinking: what if I was deaf and blind? What would I do then? Not even the Porn for the Blind people would be able to help me masturbate effectively (assuming I actually wanted their aid), since it would be impossible for me to listen to their recordings. And what if two deafblind lovers wanted to expand their relationship, and share in pornography together? How sad it must be for them, unable to see or even hear the beautiful, loving acts on the screen (or descriptions of such). I imagine they're forced to purchase Braille books with sensual content, or use their imaginations (which just brings up more questions; fortunately, I will not explore them here).
Anyway, I decided I'd do something about this. I complain a lot, and it's time I actually took action and tried to effect change, rather than just mocking those who do. I registered the domain pornforthedeafblind.org (nothing there yet, unfortunately) and will be diligently working to transcribe the recordings the generous folks at Porn for the Blind have made. I'll translate the transcriptions into Braille, which will be both posted to the website and (hopefully/eventually) published in a book.
Here is the first one I've done (not in Braille):
