First day at work after vacation went smoother than I thought it would. I imagined I'd have to dodge lots of people asking me where I went (answer: nowhere) and what I did (answer: as much nothing as I could stand, then comic shopping, comic reading and movie watching). They just ask to make conversation; I know they don't care. So why bother? Let's talk about something else.
Landlord came by to check out the busted A/C. I guessed he verified that it's not working and didn't bother trying to fix it to same himself some money. A co-worker recommended a repairman. He's coming by tomorrow morning. I hope he can fix it. It's cooler outside than it is in here.
Snow Leopard (Mac OS 10.6) comes out this Friday. I want to upgrade, especially for the low, low price of $29. Unfortunately, I bought my MacBook two years ago, months before Leopard (Mac OS 10.5). I didn't see the need to upgrade to Leopard, Tiger (Mac OS 10.4) works fine for my purposes and from what I read, it sounded like Leopard would eat up way too much hard drive space for the features it provided. Now, I'm wishing I had upgraded because Apple's forcing those who are still running Tiger to pay $169 for some stupid
Mac Box Set. I like their products but I just can't afford to be an Apple fangirl. The constant upgrades and price gauging just makes me feel like I'm being conned. Whew, just wanted to rant about that for a minute*.
In other tech lust news, check out the
Nokia Booklet 3G. It's Nokia's entry into the netbook/smartbook/ultra-light notebook/whatever market. The New York Times estimates the Booklet 3G will cost between $700 and $1000. Shoot, if I had that kind of money, I'd buy another MacBook and run Windows on it. Obviously, Nokia has no freakin' idea what a netbook is (hint: lightweight and freaking affordable).
Right now, I'm having fun listening to various movie and comic book podcasts rip into the G.I. Joe movie. The
Scene Unseen G.I. Joe ep is hilarious but NSFW because of the swears.
*Edited to Add - I could just follow the advice of this
slightly bitchy blog post and upgrade to Leopard now and Snow Leopard on Friday. Saves forty bucks.
